For the second of our two Opening Nights screenings this week, you can see the first two episodes of ITVs reinvention of the 1960s classic cult thriller, The Prisoner, ahead of UK release.
Depicting the attempts of an innocent man ('Number Six. Unforgettably played by Patrick MacGoohan) to escape imprisonment in a mysterious village run by no less mysterious forces (headed by the forbidding Number Two), it was hugely influential. While some might counsel leaving well alone, we dont agree. Not with a cast this good.
Jim Caviezel will play Number Six, once again subjecting himself to existential torture after his role as Jesus in 'The Passion of the Christ'. Number Two is Ian McKellen, no less, and he doesn't put his name to any old rubbish, while Ruth Wilson ('Jane Eyre') and Hayley Atwell ('Brideshead Revisited') are the sort of bright young talents to bring lustre and excitement to any show.
