The Taking of Pelham 123. Screenings 28 July

Code towards the end of the post

The annals of movie remakes are littered with false steps and Why did they do that? moments, but thankfully all that is set to change. Tony Scott (Top Gun, Crimson Tide, True Romance) directs a new version of The Taking Of Pelham 123 that has all the thrills and spills youd expect from the classic 1974 thriller its based on. But this also marks the first screen face-off between Hollywood heavyweights John Travolta and Denzel Washington.

Travolta plays Ryder, a mysterious criminal who takes a whole subway trains passengers hostage. As he threatens to execute them in one hour if his ransom demands are not made, he comes up against Walter Garber (Denzel Washington), an ordinary dispatcher forced to use all his ingenuity to keep the hostages alive. Also starring James Gandolfini (The Sopranos), The Taking Of Pelham 123 cannily adds 21st-century tech to the original tale, while retaining all its gritty realism and nail-biting tension.

If all this sounds like your action thriller of choice, and theres a gap in your diary at 6.30pm on 28 July, were holding free screenings at these Odeon cinemas: Birmingham, Edinburgh Wester Hailes, Glasgow Braehead, Leeds/Bradford, Liverpool Switch Island, Manchester Printworks, Newcastle Gateshead, and Londons Covent Garden, Surrey Quays, West Thurrock and Wimbledon.

To receive your free pair of tickets log onto http://www.seefilmfirst.com and enter the screening code 647627, which will take you to a special page where you can print off your tickets to bring along with you on the night. Remember its first come first served so be quick to avoid missing out.

hey, the title says screenings forthe 28th of july at the odeon at gateshead but on the ondeon website it says the first advanced screening isnt till wednesday the 29th.

so will these tickets be accepted on the 28th or are they just a waste of time??

not a bad movie - gripping enough ... but i was puzzled about the "bum hole" word used when the rest of his speech was sprinkled with the "ass" word. didnt quite gel with the baddie character.

didnt read any synopsis or review but the first 15 minutes and i was a little worried i might leave the cinema thinking will i get the tube to get home lol ... ended up going over to trafalgar square to see who was on the plinth (anthony gormley), was a kid wearing Happy Birthday Dad teeshirt and green sunnies. made me feel i could brave the tube now.

thanks for the heads up on tickets, OP!
have some rep.
