Not sure if this is common knowledge but I just got off the phone from Three customer services to try to avoid paying my DD whilst I'm away in Australia for 12 weeks.

I was advised that i could take a suspension which means my account wont be charged for the time im away. In return all you have to put up with is an effective extension of the contract when I return. For me that means putting back my upgrade date from January to April and my contract termination date from May to August - no skin off my nose as I'm happy with my tariff!

I guess the other major mobile providers will offer the same service if you ask.

Hope this helps anyone who's moving abroad temporarily :)

Is not working all the time. I was in Australia with my 3 phone and it didnt work as they say. Of course it takes from your free mins but sometimes you pay about £1 a min without knowing even on highest contract. They say it should work all the time but there is certain time that you can make phone calls. So dont believe in everything what they say. You might still get a massive bill.

i could be wrong, but i thought the idea was to leave the sim and phone behind whilst you're on holiday? and get a new phone whilst you're there ^^
maybe i've just misunderstood the tip :p
i thought it was a great tip, though! i'll have to bear it in mind if ever i go away :D
