Defiantly the best Twitter app on the iPhone/iPod Touch.

Tweetie is now Twitter! We didnt just do a name change, weve added a bunch of new stuff.

Search has been reorganized, now you can search all tweets and find users in the same spot, view Top Tweets and Browse Suggested users.

Search results now include Top Tweets, try it with Trends...winner combo!

You can now use Twitter without an account! Search, Browse uses, view trends and top tweets.

Sign-up is now availabile within the application as well, complete with Suggested user list.

More tab has been re-organized to accomplish all this. Users with one account can add a second account under the Accounts and Settings button here.

Actions weve found people use most, like Retweet have been moved to the main actions bar.

Minor tweaks were made to tweet rendering so they match Twitter.com tweets

Many Twitter apps available for Android free of charge.

Amazes me that iPhone users accept the fact that they have to usually pay for apps like this.

There are many free Twitter apps on iTunes Store. The reason this will get some heat is because it's now free and is now the official Twitter app that has been anticipated for some time.

But the ones on Android are poor and only worth being a freebie.

Usually you have to pay for quality. That was the case for Tweetie 2. How was Tweetie 2 on the Android? :whistling:

And just how are they poor - are you referring to ALL twitter clients for Android?

In fact do you actually own an Android device?

the point that I am trying to make is that iPhone users have to pay a premium to own the device and then a premium for apps to run on it... No wonder Apple post huge profits each financial year.

They depend on fashion conscious users to pay through the nose for apps that really should be free.

But the apps are made by 3rd party developers, for some it is a job. Quite hard to make any money when the apps are free. Obviously there are ways to make money from it without charging a fee but it's the developers who set the price, not Apple.

I'm quite happy to pay for stuff if I know I'm getting good quality.

Yeah I owned a Desire but didn't get on with it. Normally I hate Apple products because they are quite restrictive but there really is nothing like the ease of use and interface that is provided on the iphone. The Desire's screen is less responsive and this is partly the reason why I don't like it but also because most apps seem to have less functinality and uglier design.

Tweetie 2 was the best twitter client on any platform, Twitter for iPhone is pretty much the same thing for free. Sometimes the paid alternatives are much better, although cheapskates like martinelsen will never agree.

Yup, thats because it is the same program. Twitter bought the company and rebranded it as the official app:

its same thing with added new features as apple bought the company and changed its name. They might even incorporate its loading style in in the iphone mail system as its much easier.;-)

This was a great app, even for £2.99. They killed the icon thought, it's dreadful - glad my device is jailbroken so I just replaced it with the proper icon from Tweetie 2 :)

Seesmic have just released their Twitter app for the iPhone & iPod Touch. Looks good, but I still prefer Twitter's app.

How did you do this? Which jailbroken app do you need to download?

Thanks for the personal remarks guys :) nice.

Anyhow, you may have noticed that apps such as Tweetcaster make their money by popup adverts - plus the fact is that there is usually a premium and lite version available, so effectively developers make double the cash from sales and advertising.

I choose to support an open source platform as it allows communities of developers to showcase their abilities and users like me to evaluate them.

I am not a cheapskate, I am strongly passionate about saving money, which is the primary reason as to why I contribute to this forum on a daily basis.

Seesmic, Twidroid and the official Android Twitter app would disagree.

I tried using the previous version of Tweetie, and didn't like it at all. I have found Twitbird to be brilliant and recently paid for the premium version. The free version isn't bad, but the premium version works very well.
