As we all know, Junk email or spam, is the scourge of the internet.

Many ISP's use filtering to get rid of the worst of it. However, messages from mailing lists to which you have subscribed will continue to arrive arrive.

Reputable lists always provide an option to unsubscribe, but this is usually tucked away at the bottom of the message.

Use this free online tool to automate the process of unsubscribing from mailing lists.

Just use disposable email addresses (see spamgourmet for how to do this). Create an entirely new email address for every different forum/group that's likely to spam you. If they do, just stop receiving email from that group.

You're giving your details to another company that will use it - check out their privacy statement: -

If you supply us with your postal address online or we receive it through one of our relationships, you may, receive mailings from other third party companies. These third party companies may use the information that you provide to Unsubscribe or Unsubscribe receives from other sources to deliver you mailings with offers about goods and services that may be of interest to you.

You are potentially opening yourself up to even more spam.

Also, by unsubscribing from a mailing, you are confirming to the sender that the mailbox in question is monitored and e-mail is read. They will then sell your e-mail address as a valid and verified e-mail address (yes - unsubscribing does verify the address) and it's worth more.

Think of the ramifications of using this service!!!!

Not quite true as you omitted this section

From time to time, we may partner with companies based on the interests of our users. These partner companies will never see your email address or any other information that could identify you or be used to contact you directly. Any exceptions to this policy of sharing your name, address or email address with a partner company will be done only with your permission.

And please note when you sign up you do not give your postal address.

The idea is good, but in practice how does this work? You sign up to this website, but do any of the companies sending the emails out pay any attention to it?... I doubt it.

Anyone know anymore?

Anyone know how to remove an email address from the BNP mailing list? Some nasty joker added mine to their list and I'm now getting repulsive emails from them.

I have a hotmail address which I only use for things which are likely to lead to spam. It takes a couple of seconds to go into it and press the 'empty' button - job done!
