Long overdue, the VLC Media Player app has finally landed on the Android platform, albeit in an initial beta form.
VLC Beta for Android is currently only compatible with devices that use ARMv7 processors with support for NEON. In more simple terms, for now you’ll need one of these devices in order to use VLC: Galaxy Nexus, HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy S III, Motorola Defy, HTC Desire and the Nexus One.

This "arm7 only" stuff really frustrates me!

I mean ok, technology marches on and all that, but take a game like Temple Run - how many million more copies could they sell if it was arm6 phone compatible?

Talk about missing a trick!

Works really well on my Galaxy S2 for both Video and Music. Can't wait till it's out of beta (not that i've found any bugs.....yet)

Anyone know if this works on the HTC Evo 3D? My Play Store won't show it so I guess not but would like a workaround if possible.

Appreciate the link but have no idea which of those subdirs is the one I need.

Want it on my Android tablet. Hopefully it'll be available soon. Using MX Player at the moment which is great also.

Voted hot.

can this play FLAC ~?

If you want FLAC playback on an Android phone then look no further than Poweramp. Not sure about tablet though.

15 seconds of searching tells me the HTC Evo 3D has a MSM8660 chipset, which is ARMv7, i.e. NEON.

I prefer mx player for the time being. Is everything I need, supports anything I throw at it. Has subtitle support, even when built in to mkv movies you can switch them on/off.

gom player imo is better on the pc - windows media player sucks in comparison

If your phone is not supported and you want VLC, I would suggest going to this XDA thread for the unofficial build that was released at the beginning of the year and continually updated.

Thanks op. Plays mkv with 6 channel dts very nicely on my Galaxy Note unlike mx player and mobo which had no sound. Vplayer worked but the picture broke up at times.
