    I've recently managed to extricate myself from this lot. Hugely expensive, so-so service and performance, everything they have to offer is available much cheaper for ordinary (home) users and they frequently messed up my billing and VAT calculations.

    Oh yes, even though I got away from them, they still SPAM me on a regular basis

    I have been with 1&1 for over ten years and never encountered the problems that pete_I has. Only once has my site gone down, but one phone call and within a few minutes everything was back to normal. I only receive one or two emails from them a month, but I know that I can stop these via options on my account panel.

    Really! - I thought they were a Hosting company - What the hell are they developing?

    No Cron Jobs available
    Only 10 MySql Databases available
    Only 10GB webspace

    The 12 months free is a good deal, I know there are better paid alternatives after the 12 months is up.

    Do they charge for changing the IPS tag or DNS pointer of the FREE domain?

    Maybe you'll think different when you look at the offer which is for "1 year free *" and the "*" says that it's a minimum 24 month package, with gems like this in the Ts & Cs

    The second year and subsequent years will be charged at the standard price. Payments are based on a 24 month billing cycle, which means that when you register you will be charged for the first 24 months of your contract. There are no restrictions on cancelling the domain name registration, nor for transferring the domain name to another provider, however do note that no refund will be given.


    Oh yes, and don't forget to add VAT onto their headline prices.

    I've got 2 business packages with 1and1 and been with them for over 5 years. I have very mixed feelings about the service though - pricewise it's not as expensive now as it used to be, however technical support and billing telephone departments are next to useless, the current control panel features are far from working perfect and there has been a lot of recent email downtime. Also 1and1 never inform customers of any maintenance downtime etc. The only reason I haven't changed host is because I have over 100 domains and various databases so it would be quite a lot of hassle. Not sure I would really recommend though.

    As for the "1000 inhouse developers" i'm really not sure what they are developing apart from more problems!

    I've also had incorrect billing and VAT problems, in fact I have had to phone up every quarter for the last 3 years since a change of package so they can manually adjust and refund my fees as they cannot do it automatically apparently!?

    Emails received many times a week and try cancelling any services is a nightmare. Although they have the do not renew or cancel button in your account it still never works... well for me any way. Then before you know it they want more money despite emails and requests to terminate, if you don't pay they send debt letters with £15 added to your bill, not that I have got to that stage ever but it is what they do.

    Didn't look at the T & C's... I have to say I am quite happy where I am with Servage. Having said that, I am sure there will be some people not happy with Servage

    Never had any downtime with these guy's web hosting although they lost a data centre once and lost the email services but that was it. Never had a billing issue and always found support and customer services good.

    Each to there own but I'm in no rush to move my hosting and email services.

    Today I received an invoice from 1and1 for a .co.uk domain renewal that i've not owned for at least the last 12 months... further evidence of how useless they are

    Yes...1&1 Internet are a steaming pile of Horse ****.. Just try and leave them and see what happens. You think that you have got away but no the invoices still turn up. I've even tried twice cancelling by letter to their Slough Head Office.. Failed....Everything bad that you have read about them on the internet is true...however I should say that the poorly paid offshore support do their best to help you out.

    I wonder how many people have been caught out by the expired credit card and auto renewal scam...it must be many many thousands.

    If you have some time to spare take a look the T & Cs to see what you are up against .

    Avoid this bunch of very rich criminals like the plague

    Tut tut....Ye of little faith. you've hurt my feelings...lol
    Admittedly it was a it of a rant but it's the way the Head Office deal with customers that is annoying, you don't hear anything back despite sending your requests by registered e-mail. Are they too busy, just can't be bothered, or is it something more sinister....it's a shabby way to run a business. However they are of course extremely efficent when it comes to Billing time and the symbiotic realtionship with their debt collection agency who I have had run in with is extremely unnerving.
