Italy was a member of the Central Powers prior to WW1 but they did not fight with the Central Powers but against them. The above summary gives the impression they did.

Remember, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Read a proper book on the subject or at least use this just as a stepping stone to a more comprehensive book on WW1.

Very true - I recommend John Keegan 'The First World War' for in depth.
Richard Van Emdens 'Sapper Martin' diary was excellent along with the various letters in' The Soldier's War: The Great War Through Veterans' Eyes'
