Free licences for the Pro version of Zonealarm firewall are now being given away over a 24 hour period . You have until 2.00 p.m. on Wednesday to apply.
The link takes you to a form that asks for your name and email address, this is the only information that you need to supply. Early applicants were asked for credit card details, this now seems to have been fixed. Tell them name and email only.

#2
good deal I must remember to get that as I use the free edition at the moment..
#3
thanks, although will need reminding again on Tuesday ! :-D
#4
i've set it as one of my homepage tabs!
#5
Great, thanks
#6
wont bother...installed this last time when it was free...this resource hogger killed my pc
#7
Most companies let you have it free for 3 months, not 24 hours ;-)
#8
Sounds like a good deal but worried about resource hogging as royals mentioned. I'll test it out on my grandparents' PC anyway. Thankfully at home I have a Mac and don't need anything like this!
#9
I used run ZoneAlarm but it became like Norton, killed your machine and still let the odd nasty through. I've moved over to avira now www.avira.com which is much lighter and works well on my netbook for what it worth.
#10
Is this just for the firewall?

Thanks Doberman have some stuff:-D
#11
hot. zonealarm is great
#12
Zone Alarm used to be great, but its not what it used to be IMHO, as soon as Check Point aquired it, it became bloatware sadly. Still have fond memories of the early days though.

:stocking::stocking:

when he says free for 24 hrs. he means that you can get a FULL license for yourself at 0 cost. so within that 24 hours if you do something like fill in a form or something then you get the license for yourself to use for aslong as you please.

It's gotten really bloated, I wouldn't get it even for free.

Have you tried Norton since Norton Internet Security 2009? I agree, it was bloated and made my pc seem like wading through treacle, but now it scans in the background while you're away from the machine and, with Norton Insight, it maintains a list of "trusted" files which it knows not to scan unless they change.

Norton Internet Security 2010 has now been released and is as unobtrusive as 2009 but is slightly better at detecting viruses. I use Thunderbird for e-mail and had a couple of email viruses in .zip attachments from years ago when I used a Solaris machine. NIS 2010 is the first virus checker to have ever found them.

If you have a license for an older version of Norton Internet Security, you can get a free upgrade by registering for a free trial of 2010, download it and then enter your old key when you install it.

That's right it's available from 6.00.a.m. PST which is 2 p.m. over here

That's a disgrace! :x :x :x

You have to untick/tick a lot of boxes and update your total to get £0.00.

I've ordered free with no problem at all.

i did that and it said total was 0.00

when your payments have gone through

say 5.99

zonealarm have been zero help on their live chat system
#27
Credit card required for verification? *sniff sniff* Hmm.

This is certainly a lot different to the last time they gave product codes away. I know they're giving away a normally free product, but this isn't the behaviour that breeds trust in their products.

I'll keep using the last year of free service, then switch to the free firewall or download something else.
#28
I spoke to someone on their live chat who stated the 5.99 was only used to authorise the credit card, he assured me there is no charge for the software. I saved the chat contents to email to make sure :)

thats what they told me

but my confirmation of purchase page bit also told me they had charged my card 5.99

the only way i'll know is in a few days time to see if anything appears on my account statement
#30
Hiya all,

Thats what they told me also - but i was charged £3.74 Tax.

It showed up as £0.00 with £0.00 tax on the order confirm page, but once i clicked on the confirm button, on the next page the £3.74 had magically appeared.

The chap on the support was exceptionally unhelpful and just kept saying that its an "authorisation" and will "drop off"

After asking why an authorisation would be such a strange and unusual amount, thats recorded as "tax" he just kept repeating himself.

I then pointed out that charging Tax on a £0.00 isnt exactly good for invoicing purposes.

I guess ill wait and see what shows up on my card in the next few days - but im betting that the £3.74 does (cynical me?)
#31
And just to give you an update - i have the full £24.99 showing as "pending" on my card.

Which blows the £3.74 authorisation therory out of the water.
#32
This is weird.
What is everybody going on about.

I subscribed to this earlier on today, which said I would be emailed later.
I have just checked my email and there was the email with a link to Zone Alarm Pro and the license key which I entered and I now have Zone Alarm Pro installed.

No credit card details. No con!
#33
That's all really odd. It didn't even ask for my credit card when I used IE, and they just sent me a link and license key. Totally free and downloaded fine

When I originally used Firefox it tried to charge me, so I didn't bother.

I used Firefox.
I really don't understand why everybody else had to enter card details.

This thread should be unexpired.
#35
I just had to enter my name and email, no other details. This message was on the next screen,

You have successfully submitted a request for a ZoneAlarm purchase link. You will receive an email with the link later today. Thank you!

You get sent a link that arrives in your email.

That then sends you to the zone alarm webpage that add the item to your shoipping cart, gives a discount to reduce the cost to 0 and then you have to go through the checkout process.....and you need a CC for that part

This was not the case for me.

The download link was in the email as was the license key.

I downloaded Zone Alarm Pro and entered the key and that was it......No credit card details!

very weird. Just gone back to my original email and it takes me to the shopping cart and still asks for CC details. Unless they have changed the emails that are going out, as i beleive that Customer services is "slightly" inundated with people saying their CC's have been charged.
