Fairly noisy, as with any hard drive this size (3.5"). But nothing you can't get used to.

NO noise. Reliability? Well I've had two of these daisy chained for over a year without the slightest problem. I use one for video editing so you can see its fast enough over firewire.

Near silent, start and stop as needed what more can you want. Oh and they look great too.

Rubbish. See my post above. I've never owned a quieter drive and there are two going whenever needed.

I bought a 250 gb version from amazon at Xmas. Nice unit. Sorry to have to send it back after 8 months because it became unreliable. Do look at reviews for this model on amazon.

Rubbish? How about not being a rude little so-and-so?

I own this one, I've had much quieter ones - this one hums a lot (vibrates on the table/floor), and is generally fairly noisy compared to most. Great if you've not owned a quieter one, I can only suggest you've not owned many.

Yeah but he has the thing for an avatar!

Seagate Freeagent is much better in my opinion. Too many breakdowns with the e books. I just don't think they are built to last like Seagate Hardrives.

I would say that Seagate is the Creative Zen of the hard drive market and e book is Apple. Both good but Seagates are more reliable.

Then return it for replacement. I have two of them 50cm from my head and all I hear is spin up and down. Definitely no vibration. I've used a lot of externals at work and home and never come across any as quiet as these. The only thing quieter is my iMac (its DVD drive excepted)

Seriously, if yours is that poor get them to change it.

I can't hear my Seagate and the only way I know it's on is if the yellow light is on.

Maybe they are both quiet but it can't be quieter than that!
