Amazing bike for the price, tempted to get one as a hack bike.

How good is this bike for average use? Anyone know what the RRP is for this? how heavy it is compared to steel framed bikes? how many gears? Why is it that bikes with no suspension cost more?!

I've just had a look in my Specialized catalogues (2006 & 2007 editions).

The Hardrock XC Rigid 2007 originally retailed at £279.99 but as far as I can see was only available in Black (even though this website says its a red version). However the Hardrock XC Rigid 2006 was available as a black/red mix, so it might be worth confirming with them the model year of the bike you would be getting.

Still a fantastic price for an entry level mountain bike!

If you don't intend to do much off-roading, it will be great - a good quality frame, with smooth Shimano gearing that will make riding a pleasure rather than a chore!! (Especially compared to cheap catalogue bikes with poor quality components that end up causing a real headache).

As I said, RRP was £279.99 for the 2007 Model, and £269.99 for the 2006 Model.

The frame is A1 Premium Alloy and since this bike has rigid forks, it should be pretty light. It has 24 speed Shimano gearing. I'm not sure where you got the idea that bikes with no suspension cost more - that is rarely the case as they are usually at the bottom of the product line (as is the case with this model).

Specialized is a very good make for average users - this would make a fantastic entry level rig.

The reason it appears to cost more is that bad suspension is very cheap, so all the cheap nasty unbranded bikes tend to come with front or full sus these days. The decent quality brands still have no sus bikes at the low end of the range. A low end, good quality bike is still a lot better than a fully sus'ed no-name bike, hence the price difference.

What a deal !!
Enen cheap naff bikes are this kind of money !
I`ve just tried to order one for me and one for my son. Just a case of leaving details on website and waiting for them to get in touch though. No way of paying for them on the site, so we`ll just have to wait and see.

Thanks for the heads up Bubba, heat left

.
I've been using my dad's old (rigid) diamondback mtb while mine's in peices and been surprised that I can get round cwmcarn track on it pretty much as fast as on mine, so I hope people aren't put off by the lack of forks (you could always add something like rockshox toras fairly cheaply and have a very capable bike...)

I have an earlier model of this bike. Great machine for ordinary riding.

This is an amazing price, personally I think they may have missed off a figure before the 89.
