Amazon - Why no postage costs in their titles

POSTED BY: sassie 8 months, 2 weeks ago

Well after getting my hands slapped by edi, thought i would post in here :-D

So why is amazon the only company on here that you dont have to include postage cost in the title, there minimum spend is on £15 but so are alot of other merchants, surely it cannot be because they give a bigger cashback to HUKD ? i know that sounds a little rude but i really cant see any other reason :?

It did seem a little odd to defend the practice by saying "that's how it's always been" (paraphrasing).
I can understand that a deal from Amazon can still be lower than the next highest price INCLUDING the P&P but surely ALL retailers/E-tailers should be playing on an even field?!?

(I did suggest that low priced/small items be marked in the title as "Amazon filler" to be used to get the price up to the free delivery bar & this has been used a few times by a few people)

Seems reasonable not to have postage costs, the 15 pound is a low limit (unlike say Ebuyer which is 50) - many items are over 15 pounds which means no shipping cost and for those that are under, it's quite common for people to add items together to take it over the 15 pound mark.

I'd also say people are very familiar with Amazon, more so than many other merchants and will have a reasonable idea of postage.

peope maybe familiar with alot of merchants ways, but that is not the point really, you are advertising one item at a price and that item cannot be had for that price, all the time you see mods adding and informing members to add postage costs to their items, yet not for amazon Alot of companys do free postage for small amounts not just amazon

C32, yes i agree, if it comes under the minimum spend for free postage then it should clearly state it in the title

Ebuyer is one example, M&M sports that I've used plenty frequently has a £60 or 75 min as another, but at the other end of the scale are other e-tailers that have a £20-30 minimum, so why is Amazon exempt?
As the vast majority of "low end' entertainment e-tailers, Play, HMV, etc offer FREE delivery irrespective of the order size surely ALL P&P charges should be made clear in the title?!?

I am aware that Edi explained how to gain free delivery in the OP.

yes after ide got all excited about the bargain, then found out i had to spend almost another £10 to get it at that price otherwise it was £8-43 delivered as i didnt realise amazon posts are exempt of the "state includng delivery cost" rule

and thats just one example, the scales i was going to post (that edi now has) is over doubled when postage is added

Because it's a tool which Paul created to help members that didn't anywhere else, maybe?? Of course, we wouldn't have a Play.com, CD-Wow or Argos search because they've all been done elsewhere... it'd be pretty pointless.

Just a possibility of course, Steve.

I didn't even see it until Paul mentioned it early this Year
In fact, I've never clicked on any of the links above. I'll be back with some comments.

edit,
Amazon link is naff, too selective, Deal alerts is that RSS thingy that I can't get the hang of, Vouchers is very useful, Forum is the only one I've used and Deals is handy but I'd never use.

Ok here's what I think the best policy is for Amazon deals:

If it's a normal item under £15 and p&p applies then yes that p&p cost should be listed as normal although a comment about getting a filler item and thus shipping free for the same overall cost is recommended.

If it's a really cheap item and meant as an item to top-up for free shipping then it can be listed without p&p as long as it's listing is as a cheap topup item.

I think that makes sense?

Good good. It's a nice little tool sometimes, especially when you sort by price and find things priced at a penny lol.

Not quite sure why Amazon was chosen, as I say... it was just something that no other website provided and Paul presumably thought it was a nice thing to try.

The answer is in the second part of my post which you didn't quote oddly enough.

I didn't quote the 2nd part of your post because my post was in response to the first section.
With regard to the second section,
:
I'd also say people are very familiar with Amazon, more so than many other merchants and will have a reasonable idea of postage.
I don't feel this is a valid reason for not including P&P due to the fact you "assume" that people are familiar with Amazon's P&P charges & yet these vary between items & dispatch options. There are countless people using this site that require spoonfeeding over what I personally feel are 'obvious' things/queries so I don't feel this 'familiarity' with Amazon justifies the omission of P&P charges.

Paul/Admin's response I think acknowleges that the P&P should be included although it doesn't say if this HAS to be shown in the title as I would usually do if posting.....

Not really sure what is classed as a normal item really, as i dont think anyone is gonna be posting an item that is at normal price.
