I've been looking around for the cheapest way to get the hardware to allow me to get Setanta. This was the best I could find.

P.S. This isn't my first post, so don't be gentle, get stuck in!

This has now expired, in that the price is now £39.99 but they throw in a Setanta card and first months free. That still might be a good deal for some but it is not as good as buying it for £21.99 and doing the Setanta 3 months @ £5 deal.

If these are up to the quality of the old GDB2/3 then i'd give them a miss. Big problems like dodgy OTA updates that mess up the box and required a downgrade via serial cable and overheating/freezing.

I already have a TV with freeview built in, and a freeview hard disk recorder. I want this purely for seeing Setanta, so it will only be used for a few hours a week. My only experience with Goodmans is my mother-in-law's TV. The picture quality is poor but she's had it for a few years and never had a problem.

I had a GDB2 for years and never had an issue with it, didn't lock up once. I kept it up to date. It had very good reception (I live in a dodgy FV reception area). It look fairly fugly and wasn't the snappiest EPG but worked just fine.

have to agree with you, like yourself I too live in a poor reception area and have 2 gdb3's and they've been great had them for 3 years.

You'll have to subscibe separately.
Note that you will have to pay a £10 connection fee to Setanta when you do sign up.

this is exactly what ive been looking for for my father in law....
but to get setanta do you have to ring them and they send a card or do you buy card from shops like a mobile top up thing?

You'll need a card that you get directly from Setanta.
You can phone them or do it online.
