Freeview out of date? already?

POSTED BY: Likely2 1 year, 11 months ago

Just to inject a little change of direction regarding current content....

without scaremongering should we hang off buying a freeview box and wait for next generation 2010?
glad my telly doesn't have freeview and didn't pay a premium to to get it built in.

You want to put off buying a £20 freeview box now because there might be a better version 2 years from now?

You'll be without TV if you live in an area where analogue switch off is in 2010 or sooner!

HDTV is no cert for Freeview & certainly will NOT be available in 2010 so don't hold off!

Who's 'You', not moi, we've had a digibox since before seperate boxes were invented, built into our Sony CRT, or was it a general 'You' ?

It's not about now it's about the future. Some people like to plan ahead, and some can't afford to keep upgrading equipment at the whim of others who think they know what's best.

wow in 2-4 years i'll need a new hd freeview box! so what woopy do bring it on free hd. the average life of the modern tv is 5 years thats how long manufacturers keep spares and backup available for, but whichever way things go the maximum resolution of a dtt hd service will be 1080i (720p is more likely the standard we will get due to bandwith constrictions) which almost all lcd and plasmas made in the last few years can cope with ease. so you buy a box to get hd so be it. most modern tvs have a cam slot in them to directly access software within the tv updating the software to accept mpeg4 transmissions may not be impossible as the hard ware can be cam based. cam= common access module.

So they're actually going to reduce the bit rate to show us HD TV??? what's the point of making it even MORE blocky than it is now what a waste of money! Might as well go back to analog.
