Acer Aspire 7520 laptop, 17", Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core TK-53

£349.97

My first deal posted so be gentle... I bought this laptop for £350 when it was in stock a week or so back, and it's superb for the money - I'm absolutely delighted with it. Really nice 17" Crystalbrite widescreen (the glossy type). I've upgraded to 2Gb RAM for £26 (Play.com) and sold the 1Gb it comes with for £15.

http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_7520-5A1G08Mi_Laptop_LX.AMM0X.001/version-1.asp

Nothing I've seen at £350 (including Dell) really matches this for a 17" laptop. Full spec:

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 TK-53 - 1.7GHz, up to 1.6GHz FSB, 512KB L2 Cache
RAM: 1GB DDR2
Hard Drive: 80GB Serial ATA
Screen: 17" Widescreen TFT (1440x900)with CrystalBrite Technology
Optical Drive: DVD±RW Super Multi Double Layer
Wireless LAN: 802.11b/g
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium

It doesn't say on the specs but I can confirm it has a card reader and firewire port. The 1G RAM comes as 2 x 512Mb.

Currently showing more than 20 in stock, last week they sold out more or less straight after I ordered mine, so be quick! I think laptopsdirect have 2% quidco too.

The £400 one is a different model (7520-6A1G08Mi) - follow the link on my original post. I would put a direct link up so it goes directly to the right model when you click "go to deal" only I don't know how yet!

ahh I see.
thanks.
how does it run? is it snappy? I'd have thought 17" was overkil when it's only running at 1.7Ghz

I think it's great, especially with 2Gb RAM installed (max is 4Gb apparently). Though I haven't tried it for games or really power-hungry uses. Very few laptops in this price band have a dual core CPU or a 17" screen, let alone both.

I don't really know what relation the processor is supposed to have to the screen size? I really just wanted something with a big screen and didn't really imagine how the processor should affect the choice of screen.

Screen size isn't affected by processor speed, the resolution is still the same as a 15" screen, I reckon this is a good deal, not a gamers machine though...mind you for that price as the OP says dual core and 17" screen at a bargain price.

I bought this laptop for a friend last month.
Removed all the ACER bloatware, and it runs like a dream, even on the 1GB that it came shipped with.

Screen was excellent, and laptop was ideal as a desktop replacement.

Recommended.
