Ziffius's W810i unlocking/ debranding guide.

YOU DO THE FOLLOWING AT YOUR OWN RISK:

These phones can come with one of two security certficates, CID-49 and CID-50. CID-49 Phones can be unlocked and debranded, while CID-50 phones can only be debranded (at the moment).

How to tell what CID your phone is without connecting it to the PC:

Place the phone in standby where you can see "Calls" on the left and "Menu" on the right. Press the following keys: * >>| * |<< |<< * |<< * and you will get a service menu come up. Select Service Info and then select Configuation. Press down until you get to the bottom and if you see "C: 49" a line underneath GSM1800 GSM1900 you have a CID-49 phone.
Bewarned that flashing a phone will delete any contacts, numbers etc on the phone. So it's best to do it as soon as you receive it.

DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR PHONE UNTIL THE SOFTWARE TELLS YOU TO, AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A FULLY CHARGED BATTERY BEFORE STARTING, AS IT MY TAKE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS.

IT'S VITAL YOU BACKUP YOUR GDFS AS DETAILED IN THIS GUIDE.

Once you've downloaded them, right click on the file you have just downloaded and select 'extract all'. You will then get a wizard asking where you want to extract them to, pick somewhere where you will be able to find them.

Turn your phone off, remove the battery and put it back in. plug the usb lead into the into the PC but not the Phone yet, Press and hold down the C button while inserting the USB lead into the phone. After a few seconds Windows should detect a USB flash device you can then release the C button after a few seconds, When windows prompts you for the drivers, use the USB Flash Drivers downloaded. Unplug/ turn off the phone, remove the battery and then reinsert it. If Windows detected either a Mass device or a W810i phone, you didn't have the C button held down.

Download SETools V1.08 from http://rapidshare.com/files/94070514...v1.08.zip.html and again extract it. Once extracted run it, but DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES CLICK ON THE WRITE GDFS BUTTON. Pay attention to the areas highlighted in red. Select W810 As the Phone Type and Click on 'Identify'. Follow the instructions that the program gives you and continue to do so throughout this guide, these will appear in the status area where it says 'READY'. Once done you will see:



The CID number will be indicated in the left plane. You now have to back up your GDFS.

Click the "Read GDFS" button highlighted in green, this will backup your GDFS (very important!). The GDFS file on your phone is unique to your phone, it's vital you back it up and put into a safe place. It will be saved in the directory where setool2lite is located as gdfs_xxxxxxxxxxxx.bin, with xxxxxxxxxxx being your phone's IMEI number. Goto the directory where SETools is located and make sure the backup of the GDFS is present, you may need need this if something goes wrong. DO NOT PROCEDE ANY FUTHER UNLESS YOU HAVE A BACKUP OF YOUR GDFS.

You should now know what CID your phone is. The following instructions are for the CID-49 Phones, if you have a CID-50 phone skip to the CID-50 section.

CID-49

Download the CID-49 Firmware http://rapidshare.com/files/94074296...ID-49.zip.html and extract it to the same directory as SETools.

You now need to download a custpack, this finalize's you phone, I've added many theme that came with other Sony Ericisson phones and also quite a few flash menus. Download the pack of your choice and save it the the directory where you extracted SETools to, but don't extract it

Go back to SETools and click on the ADD button, select W810_R4EA031_MAIN_GENERIC_HN_RED49.mbn Click on ADD again and this time select W810_R4ED001_FS_EUROPE_2_RED49.fbn. Now click on the ... Next to the 'MISC Files' (highlighted in red) and select the custpack downloaded. Now click the FLASH button



Your Phone should now be debranded. If you want to unlock it, download the patches from http://rapidshare.com/files/94070513/patches.zip.html Extract them to the SEtools folder and then click on the ... next to 'Misc Files' again and this time select Remove_SIM_lock_R4EA031.VKP.



Now Press the 'WRITE SCRIPT BUTTON'. It should give you a pop up dialog, 'NO' will apply the patch, 'YES' will remove it. You want 'NO'. Be very careful about which button you click on, if you click on 'Write GDFS' instead of 'Write Script', your phone will be dead. You can remove the patch by going though the same procedure but this time clicking on 'YES'.

I've put the patches 5 I use into a single file to make it easier called MegaPatch (5)vkp, which is included in the patch archive. This has the following patches in one file so you don't have to apply then indivually:

Remove_SIM_lock_R4EA031.VKP, Unlocks the phone for use with other networks.
Remove_keypad_lock_and_unlock_messages_w810_r4ea03 1.vkp, Removes the "press * to unlock" messege, though the keypad is still unlocked in the normal way.
Remove emergency calls W810i R4EA031.vkp, stops 911, 112, 999 from being dialed when the keylock is actived. You will still be able to dial them when the keylock is off.
disable setupwizard on simcard change_w810_r4ea031.vkp, Get's rid of that annoying wizard.
Brightness_of_10%_to_100%_W810i_R4EA01.vkp, Normally the W810i has 5 brightness settings 60% to 100%, it now has 10 brightness settings 10% to 100%.

I've also included the program I used to combine the 5 patches into one. There are over a 100 patches, but the most useful other ones are:

save_java_to_memory_stick_w810_r4ea031.vkp, this usefull for games. Instead of installing the games on the phones internal memory, it will now install them onto the memory card.

W810i_R4EA031_move_pl_to_other.vkp, this will move the playlists to the memory card. Make's sense to store the playlists with the associated mp3's if you have multiple memory cards.

Move flash to card v2 W810i R4EA031.vkp, this will move the flash menus to the memory card. You will need to copy them from the custpack. Apart from the 5 in the megapatch, these 3 are the only other patches i've tested. Some of the other may not work.

After flashing the phone, you will need to go to either the Sonyericsson website or your network providers website to get them to text you your mms/wap settings (free) although most should already be included in the custpack.

Be warned, running the SEUS update will relock your phone. It's also been known to change your CID upwards when updating the firmware

Your phone should now be unlocked and debranded.

CID-50

Download the CID-50 Firmware http://rapidshare.com/files/94074297...ID-50.zip.html and extract it to the same directory as SETools.
