FOUND BY: gt94sss2 4 months, 1 week ago

First Direct have announced that they have reintroduced their 'old' offer of paying £100 if you open a current account with them.

This in addition to their now standard offer, where if you're not happy with First Direct after trying them for 6 months and close your account, they will give you another £100 or as they say:

That's £100 if you like us and £200 if you dont.

Are you sure that is First Direct ? - as the FD account comes with a £250 interest free overdraft..

Or pay £10 per month, making it £140 profit if you cancel after 6...

Thats the idea, you have your salary paid into the account and who's going to want to change where their salary is paid after just 6 months!!! Although I must admit I am more than happy with them, now they have transferred accounts to the one account I think they have scrapped the £25 for going over your agreed limit, and its just charged at interest per day - much better system as you pay only on what you go over and should stop people claiming their unfair fees back from them!

I have been charged £55 by First direct for going a few pounds after my limit. One day I went over a bit (£25 fine) the next day over a bit more so £30 fine)

This was pennies and a few pounds

Get in touch and go easy with rep by telling them it was an oversight on your behalf, and I am sure they will refund the charge.
BTW be polite !!!!!!!!!!!!

banking with first direct usually costs £10 a month, but it's free when you pay in at least £1,500 to your 1st Account each month, hold a selected first direct additional product, or maintain an average monthly 1st Account balance of £1,500."

I have had a first direct account for just over 2 years, and had been unemployed for a few months when they decided to start charging... I panicked when I heard that I would be charged £10 a month if I didn't pay in £1k a month to my account, however I found that you can get round it...

I have a normal account (now known as 1st Account) and ALSO an online savings account. Because you are using more than one product with First Direct, you do not have to pay the charge if you are not paying enough into your 1st Account.

At the moment, I have less than £5 between the 2 accounts as I am waiting for my first payday in my new job, and I have not been charged at all

Couldnt you just transfer your savings to this account, then put them back six months later, making £200 in the process. This is assuming you have an extra £1500 lying around and there is no problem having near to nothing in your savings account.
