another example maybe of it costing more to buy replacement cartridges than to buy another printer? ownership / running costs will be more important that initial purchase cost to all but the lightest user.

Yep agreed. As with the Lexmark they reel you in on a cheap printer and sting you for high price cartridges. Dell are terrible for that too. Another point to mention is that whilst this may come with cartridges I understand that the ones provided aren't even supplied with 100% capacity. They are essentially samples.

Again have a look on the web for compatible carts and their prices.

I think I have bought around 10-15 sets of compatible ink for my Epsom R200. They cost me around £4-5 per set of 5. If I had bought original Epson carts I suspect they would have been closer to £40 per set. I periodically buy a job lot of 3 or 4 sets and always feel comfortable that if I waste a print or 2 its costing me next to nothing.

Can you please supply the website for your supplier?

Thanks

This printer has been 1/2 price for months at Argos. I originally only bought 1 but eventually figured buying another 1 would off-set the cartridge cost. The compatible cartridges cost about the same as the original cartridges with more ink but every other line, there is a streak when I print with a compatible. There are all-in-one printers that are about the same price as this printer when on sale from time to time. I would suggest waiting for those all-in-one printer deals.

to answer a question aimed at another member:
Random visit to BigPockets shows R200 compatible cartridges are under £1 each inc VAT.
Example.
P&P costs push the delivered cost for 2 complete sets to about £11.
Probably find them even (marginally) cheaper if using some price comparison sites.
Hope of use.

Your printer heads may possibly need aligning / cleaning.
Most printers (certainly Epson anyway) have a facility to clean and align the heads and this would probably help reduce / completely remove your problem.
It is recommended practice (with Epsons) to align the heads at every cartridge change.
Without knowing the mechanism of HP or other manufacturers' printers, I don't immediately know if this is also mandatory for any unit.
Some possibly(?) useful detail here

Flipd is quite correct. I use the following company for my R200 refills and they haven't let me down yet (tempting fate!)
http://www.hornseainkjets.co.uk/epso...rx620-70-c.asp

Depending on how many sets you buy but say 2 as an example it would cost you £15 delivered and that also includes an extra 2 black refills making it 14 cartridges for £15.
They are chipped as well and work with the Epson software.

Hope that helps
