**UPDATED** HotUKDeals - For Sale forum rules & guidelines *PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING *

POSTED BY: Admin 3 years, 8 months ago

The HotUKDeals For Sale/Trade forum is an area where HUKD members can personally trade with other members. It is like the classifieds in your local paper or eBay, but entirely free and for member use only. HUKD does not make any guarantee as to the trustworthiness or condition of any trades on here and we do not validate the listings on here. So please trade cautiously, follow these rules closely and understand the risk factor involved in any personal trades.

Pay particular attention to the "Suggested Guidelines for Buyers" section below.

WHO CAN SELL, BUY AND TRADE

(1) This is for personal trading and selling only. Multi user/connected accounts are NOT permitted in this forum. NO businesses, trader like, businesslike behaviour or services. NO bulk sales of more than two of the SAME items sold separately or together as a 'lot' within a three month period. NO linking to an external business, eBay/Amazon Marketplace store.

(2) NB: This forums definition of a 'TRADE' is an exchange of items between members, usually without payment of money and of an acceptable value agreed by both parties.

Please Note: Under 18's are able to use any forum including the For Sale forum. Bear this in mind when trading as we are unable to confirm or take responsibility for the age of any user. We also suggest that you collect as much information and as many details as possible BEFORE starting a trade with anyone.

LISTING A TRADE, SALE OR REQUEST

Full FS Rules will apply to ANY thread listing of personal trade items in other forums here, including requests for pricing.

(3) All sales MUST be listed and completed fully on the HUKD FS/FT forum. All negotiations must be done within the thread until a sale is agreed by both parties. Contact details must NOT be added to FS/T forum threads. NO eBay, auction, classified or external links to an item listed elsewhere. You must NOT list your items for sale or trade here if they're listed elsewhere, this also applies where you have more than one of the same item being offered and includes 'Request' or 'Wanted' threads.
* Trading/buying/selling items on behalf of a third party is NOT permitted without our prior consent, use the 'report' button to let us know. The items MUST belong to you or your household and be in YOUR possession.

(4) It should go without saying, NO prohibited, classified or illegal items. This includes fake/counterfeit goods, copied media, ANY console cards 'TTDS', 'DSTT' or 'Pandora' batteries etc., cable TV boxes 'NTL' or 'Virgin Media' etc., any promotional material unless bundled with original item, money swapping' such as bank transfers of £xx paid in to others PayPal account for £xx amount, Google Adwords, group specific discount codes such as 'student card numbers' for example, weapons of any kind, alcohol, tobacco products or illegal substances, age restricted products (eg. pharmaceuticals), sexually explicit items, gaming accounts such as 'Steam' which are non transferable and any similar trades will be expired and closed. NO voucher sales such as Amazon or High Street store or mobile top ups, only like for like trades.

(5) Please Post Images (click for details) including a piece of paper with your user name and date next to the actual items for sale. This helps your sale or trade by showing the condition, establishing validity and also that you have the items in your possession. If you post an eBay image or are unable to post any images, we may pull the listing immediately to request further information.

(6) You MUST specify a legitimate asking price for every item in your listing, this includes items for trade only and is for comparison 'like for like' reasons. Sellers listed price CANNOT be altered once offers have been made. Items already listed must NOT be listed in ANY other active thread. This is NOT an auction site, bidding on items is strictly NOT allowed.

(7) If advertising a ticket sale it should be at face value and NOT an inflated price. (Note: you cannot resell train tickets or football/soccer tickets)

(8) Please use the 'report' button in the first post to update your thread once the item has been sold, trade completed or if the thread has been left open and dormant. Every thread MUST be expired and closed, this especially applies if re-listing items from it. Use the button to notify moderators of ANY changes. This includes and is YOUR responsibility to make sure we know your thread NEEDS to be expired and closed.

(9) If listing a request a price is NOT needed, however sellers responding to the request MUST state a price they're willing to accept. Requests for the same items or items in closed threads from the last seven days, must NOT be made in ANY other active thread. We do NOT permit threads such as “I have £xx.xx in my PayPal account, what can you offer?”. Any such threads will be locked. Buyers and Sellers MUST specifically state what they are selling or looking for, vague descriptions such as 'any action DVD', 'any XBox 360 game' etc. are unacceptable.

(10) You must NOT list items for sale at higher than the recommended retail price. The marker of RRP will be determined by cross indexing with Amazon or other well known retailer. Profiteering is NOT permitted and this includes items previously found at a lower price in the 'Deals' or ANY forum here.
* Vouchers available as non transferable or with next to no resale value, such as 0.001p for example and generally available free items etc. must NOT be offered for sale or trade.

FULFILLING YOUR TRADE OBLIGATIONS

(11) Offer and acceptance of trade or sale MUST be posted in relevant threads. Private Messages are for personal details only, you must NOT deal by PM or by any other method away from the FS/T forum.

(12) Once an offer has been made and accepted the trade should be considered final. Sellers who accept an offer and subsequently accept a higher offer from another member, may be suspended from trading. On the flip side, members who submit or accept an offer and subsequently pull out for any reason, will be suspended from trading for at LEAST one day.

(13) Goods remain the responsibility of the seller until the buyer takes possession and affirms they are okay. For this reason be honest in your descriptions and include original photos so the buyer knows what they are getting! Also, use a form of insured and signed for delivery to ensure any shipping/delivery mishaps will be covered.
*PayPal Gift Advice:
If paying by PayPal's 'Gift' option to save on fees, you won't be able to raise a regular dispute with PayPal if a transaction goes wrong. For protection make a normal payment and pay the fees...

EXPIRING/CLOSING/RELISTING THREADS, THREAD COMMENTS, SPOILING AND PRICE COMPARISON

(14) Please ONLY post in a thread if you are interested in engaging in the sale/trade listed. Anything else will be considered thread spoiling and will be deleted. Thread spoilers, including threadjackers, face a ban from the FS/FT forum. If a member continually posts questions in multiple threads and then withdraws from the sale this will be considered thread spoiling. Low ball offers will also be considered thread spoiling and will be deleted. It is up to the original poster to use the 'report' button to notify moderators of any thread spoiling.

(15) The ONLY exception to this is if you see the EXACT item priced higher than available new elsewhere. In this case a third-party can make a post but ONLY in the following format: LINK TO MERCHANT - PRICE. No comments, just the facts. This must be the final price after VAT/shipping for a new product and from a reputable merchant. Price comparison to auction sites, classifieds or other personal sales are NOT allowed. Members who DO NOT follow these posting rules face a ban from the FS/FT forum.

(16) If you believe a poster is dodgy please use the “report” button stating your evidence. ONLY post suspicions in the thread if you are 100% positive the poster is a troll.

(17) Continuous 'bumping' of threads to promote your sale without good reason, will result in closed threads and infractions. Please edit your last reply in the thread rather than 'bump' with a new one, this includes adding images directly under one of your own comments, bumping by proxy or discussion and to a maximum of THREE BUMPS in total.

(18) Editing of ORIGINAL POST could cause your thread to be closed or deleted at the discretion of Admin or Moderators. Use the 'report' button in the first post to notify moderators of changes.

(19) When a thread is expired, closed or removed from the FS forum, the same items must NOT be relisted until a period of at least SEVEN DAYS has passed from the date it's closed and expired. Those same items must NOT be listed or offered in ANY other active thread. * It's YOUR responsibility to use the 'report' button to have your active threads closed BEFORE relisting.

(20) We reserve the right to close a listing without a given reason and if we suspect the trade might be 'unsafe'. If you disagree with the decision, please use the 'Contact Us' link to let us know.

HUKD TRADING FEEDBACK

Please make sure you leave clear and honest trading feedback for any trade you have completed. This helps good traders build a healthy reputation and warns others about the bad ones. Please read details posted here: HUKD FS/FT feedback

Note: FS/FT user feedback should only be left after a trade is completely entered into, such as items paid for, exchange of items commenced etc. Please do not use it as a retaliatory tool at any time for any site issue, as that will at least result in an infraction, suspension or your exclusion from trading altogether.

SUGGESTED GUIDELINES FOR BUYERS

(1) Check the traders HUKD trading feedback. Please read details posted here: HUKD FS/FT feedback

(2) Outside of this you can use the poster's eBay feedback to establish some kind of trust level. If you do so make sure you contact the user through eBay to make sure the account they state as theirs is indeed theirs.

(3) Use PayPal. We would recommend only buying from Verified PayPal Members. You can see this status on the second PayPal screen when you go to make a payment, you do not have to complete the payment to view this. PayPal is far from perfect but at least it gives you the chance of recourse if things go pear shaped.

(4) Receive and validate the following information:
  1. Landline telephone number Make a CALL to check out the area code and number are correct too!
  2. Name and address including postcode
  3. Valid e-mail address.
  4. Make a small payment to and from each other to validate the PayPal e-mail address.
*PayPal Advice:
If paying by PayPal's 'Gift' option to save on fees, you won't be able to raise a regular dispute with PayPal if a transaction goes wrong. For protection make a normal payment and pay the fees...

(5) If possible, collect and pay for items in person.

User Feedback

Caveat Emptor. Do NOT proceed with a deal until you are completely satisfied with all details being correct. It's in your best interest to check out these details yourself. This forum is equivalent to a newspaper's classified section, HotUKDeals is not responsible for and does not vouch for any listings or sales/trades in this forum! Use your head, follow the guidelines, evaluate the risk and make your own decision.

Royal Mail Website

UNRESOLVED TRADES

Traders with unresolved trades may be suspended or banned from using the FS forum

Please use this in conjunction with FS rules, guidelines and specifically the FS user feedback system.

NOTE PENALTIES FOR BREACHING THESE RULES

The following is a rough guide, but it is within the moderators’ discretion to make decisions based on individual circumstances. Some offences may result in an immediate suspension, including but not limited to the following:
  1. Trading by PM or 'Private Message' only
  2. Offering or requesting pirated/copyright material
  3. Posting links to the same item being sold elsewhere (e.g. on eBay)
  4. Ignoring moderators requests for information
  5. Persistent bumping after warning from a moderator
  6. Repeatedly posting or creating new threads for the same items
  7. Relisting before seven days have passed from the date a thread for the same items is closed
  8. Trades not fully entered into after acceptance in thread
Suspension tiers are as follows:

Warning infraction = 0 points/no suspension
1 point full infraction = no suspension, the point is active for thirty days

All infractions are active for thirty days, if a two point infraction is received before the previous one has expired, it will increase by two points each time and will accumulate until a full ban is reached.

If a one or two point infraction is given at any time after all other infractions have expired, the sequence begins again at zero.

We can if deemed necessary, issue any points tally in one go.
2 points = a one day suspension
4 points = a three day suspension
6 points = a five day suspension
8 points = a two week suspension
10 points = a one month suspension
12 points = a full site ban or suspension
Please note that all infractions remain active for 30 (thirty) days.

Notes on statuses:

You can see a member's status either in their profile, or under their user name to the left of the page. If it is 'Suspended', this indicates a temporary removal of their posting privileges on the forums. If you wish to know why, have a look back through their latest threads and you will more than likely see a note from a moderator. If their status is 'Banned', this means they are permanently banned from HotUKDeals and will NOT be returning.

If you feel the need to appeal a decision, please use the 'Contact Us' button at the bottom of the page to e-mail Admin.

I have changed it to spoiling. However, thread crapping is a common forum term and carries a lot of nuance with it that most people understand.

Thank you.
I have NEVER seen that term used on any Forums I post on.
So is 'crap' okay and if so that means the 'other' word for crap must also be allowed.

I find the low price idea a bit odd considering this site is meant to be used to find deals?

To find deals at the lowest prices is odd? Or not allowing eBay sellers who might offer something at a lower price?

O sorry, didnt make that clear, the ebay one i semi understand, but if someone is advetising on here for more expensive I don't see why users cannot give their opnion on the price as after all HUD is supposed to be where all the bargins are, and it is after all only in their opnion

I agree. The whole point of this website is to share knowledge of the cheapest place to buy items. Surely users should be able to inform others if there is a cheaper place to buy the item than from this seller. This will also encourage the seller to reduce the item to a more reasonable price. This would be especially useful to new users of the site who haven't found their feet yet, and prevent them from being "ripped off".

However I do agree that hurling abuse at the seller is unacceptable. Even if you think their price is too high, there are pleasant ways of saying it! And even if they are trying to sell us stuff that can be obtained for free elsewhere on the site (such as SIM cards!!!).

Please be advised, all buyers and sellers should satisfy themselves that either party is genuine by providing the following via PM to each other, as well as to Admin or Moderator:

1] Landline telephone number Make a CALL to check out the area code and number are correct too!
2] Name and address including postcode
3] Valid e-mail address [no disposable addresses such as @gmail or @yahoo for example].
4] Using PayPal then check out eBay feedback if there is any and make a small payment to and from each other to validate the PayPal e-mail address.
5] If possible, collect and pay for items in person

Do NOT proceed with a deal until you are completely satisfied with all details being correct.

This message is being inserted in all For Sale or Trade forum threads.

NOTE: Call landline number detail above now added!

I think it is good that "thread crapping" is not allowed... but however I do feel that if an item is new for a cheaper price elsewhere... the poster SHOULD be allowed to post the price WITH proof of this lower price so the poster can re consider. (I've used a forum like this and this rule has worked well).

So if someone is selling a DVD for £3.99... but play.com have it for £2.99... someone could say, "I'll offer this because its lower on play.com" and provide a link.

I also think making a small payment to and from each other is a bit silly... as is providing a telephone and address TO THE MODERATOR because surely it is ultimately down to the buyer etc to make sure the person is real... the mod/admin can't fight on behalf of this buyer just because they know their details (if you know what I mean ;)).

Valid email address I also think is a good idea... as is using paypal.

I'm thinking this forum will be good!

P.S. Long time lurker on hukd ;)
