to answer your questions jaz. They work good for the price, not as good as a 8800GT or a 512mb 8800GTS, recommend if the extra £50 is too far. This isnt personall experience but from facts i know, benchamrks and from friends.
Voted hot as its an XT which are expensive

Cracking price for a good card. Falls short of th cards mentioned above. However 2 of these bad boys in xfire scale really well together compared to 2 8800gt in SLI.

They don't get close to beating 8800GTs in performance. Check out the US Tomshardware charts, or reviews of these cards on trusted reviews to see for yourself.

yeh 8800gt beats it slightly but ati beats gts easily and the ati has the important dx10.1 spec and new shader spec etc, i prefer that to a few fps extra and the price is great.

10.1 means nothing at the moment. When games come out for that, you'll need a new card anyway.

10.1 and 4.1 are not important at this time. All i remember is 10.1 is just little pieces of fluff to look good. Great but Crossfireing them only gives you say .3x more, depends on the game/drivers/situation, crysis still laughs at it.

What about the new 8800GTS? The previous 8800GTS version with 320Mb and 640Mb use a different core G80 to the newer 512Mb 8800GTS card (G92) which now clocks in performance wise supposedly a fraction above a std 8800GT card. Reason supposedly that ifs data starved as it has the later core (better peformance) and features of the GTX and Ultra its bus is only 256bits (restricts the extra performance the core gives) rather than 320bits the older GTS has and 384bits the GTX/Ultra have.

Really needs something liek tomshareware to test these to show that this latter GTS will be futher up the scale than the GT and ATI3870 will be.

How confusing is this gettting LOL.

And I really don't care which mfr' is better as I have no loyalty to either as they are both as bad as each other for doing the "mines better than yours" and yet still having spates of rubbish drivers through out there histories LOL

The GTS can already be had for less than £200. If they drop on some offer by another 10 or so quid, then it's worth going for a GTS. However the GTS is a dual slot, so it's bigger than the GT. Something to consider if you're short of space and want to run 2 cards together
