EXPIRED - Free £10 for First Direct account holders

95°

FOUND BY: t0m 3 months, 1 week ago

Expires: 01/03/2008

first direct are offering all account holders who trial their new mobile phone banking product MONILINK. This works with most modern mobile phones (it sounds as if it runs on Java).

The service allows you to get your balance and mini statements on your phone. Until 01 September 2008 this service is free (and after this date there are no on-going charges, just a cost per use) and if you sign up to use the service before 01 March you'll get £10.

Ooh. This sounds good! Much better than their weekly texts at 6 in the morning!!!!

I'll give this a whirl (and the £10 is a nice bonus!) And the missus will get it too - despite her not probably going to realy use it! I know I will!

Hmmm.

Not so good. Worth using until August though when they start charging.... and get a free tenner!

how much does MONILINK™ cost?

Balance enquiries cost 20p and mini statements are 25p. These will appear as premium SMS charges on your mobile phone bill.

Agreed, I won't use it past the free usage period. But at least there aren't any recurring charges, so you get the £10 but don't need to unsubscribe to avoid paying any fees!

Yeh, I would imagine they will have a rethink when they end up with no customers!!!

They did the same thing with texts. It was free, then starting charging, now free again.

I'll not lose any sleep

PS a little heat added this time!!!! (Forgot before! - Not sure why anyone could possibly vote cold for a free tenner - unless of course they hate FD bank!)

Aliance and leicester did the same offer. free till January. I am still waiting for the £10 despite three calls to moneylink and A & L. so dont hold your breath!!!!!!

Good idea to use while free but on Virgin you are still charged for the download bytes.

To be fair, FD are pretty good - particularly with a little threat attached! I'd have thought all operators charge for data downloads? (Not an issue for me with my contract)

I WAS a First Direct account holder but closed mine after getting informed that I would be charged £10 per month just for having an account.

I think they're the first bank to start introducing charges for having an account with them, but I think there is a work around it, but can't remember what it is, I'm not sure why everybody thinks FD is so good, if only you knew the half of it, they're part of the HSBC group aswell.

Just open a deposit account and keep a few pounds in it, then you don't get charged for the current account.

Part of HSBC but a world away in customer service. I have banked with them since their launch which must be about 12 years now. Have never had a problem, never had any cause for complaint. Their CS people are the best in the world, always polite, always pick up the phone within 2-3 rings and always understand English (wonder if that's because they are not outsourced, hmmm). Amex take note, Indians reading scripts is not Customer Service!

The best organisation I deal with, bar none, and I have a lot of credit cards, accounts, savings and investments. I don't get caught by the £10 per month, but would probably still pay it if I did, they are that good.

As a fellow customer I agree 100% with what you said about FD's customer service. I too have been with them for over 10yrs and every single time I contact them they dish out a lesson in quality customer service - I wouldn't waste my time with any other bank.
