FOUND BY: Jerichologan 1 year, 9 months ago

STARTS: 15/02/2008

Saw in the Sun on friday that pc world were selling these for £13.99 on BOGOFF nationwide.. not sure when it runs out but 100 discs for £13.99 aint bad, so i stocked up.

Went into my local store Merry Hill today and they had them on a special offer end saying £12.49 HALF PRICE.. challenged an assistant as even on the window they had the press advert saying BOGOFF £13.99. She said PC World are crap advertising offers and not putting the right advertising up and told the guy on the till to put them through at BOGOFF. When he scanned they came up as the BOGOFF anyway

Maplins are selling 100 DVD-R or DVD+R for £12.49 at the moment. MrDVD I think was the brand - not sure if they're better or worse or what. They all work the same for me!

There is absolutely no competition - verbatim are far far better than mrdata (or anything else).

If they have japanese manufactured verbs then they are TYG03's, which are some of the best discs available. if they only have taiwanese produced then they are MCC03RG20 which are still very good discs. There are also some made in india, but they are best left on the shelves (MCC03RG20 too, but made by MBI). They are all code 834712 on the website, you'll have to hunt through the boxes in store to find japanese/taiwanese.

288554 on the website are DVD+R, so they will be YUDEN000T03 for japanese manufactured and MCC04 for taiwan/india. again, take taiwanese over indian.

I'm gonna need to run that through Google Translate.

As I said, all discs work the same for me.

You've been lucky!

Discs are not only graded (through the manufacturing process) and different dyes will give better or worse results.

The Japanese Ty discs (which hopefully these Verbs will be) are pretty much universally accepted as the best on the market.

I was actually in my local pc world on friday looking for cheap verbs (I usually avoid pcw, but they occasionally mess up the price on discs) and they had a few japanese DVD+R and one spindle of 50 japanese DVD-R. Next door in currys they had loads of japanese - and +, so I may try a pricematch.. =]

Now if only they would do bogof on singapore dual-layers. :>

Currys have them at the same price (at least they claimed to when I tried to do a pricematch - no TY ones in pcworld but some in currys) too.

Thanks for this...noticed SVP doing 200 discs of these for 37.99 GBP - so this works out cheaper with BOGOF!!!

Anyway, just a newbie question:- It wouldn't say what dye is being used on the outer packaging right? We just derive it from which country the discs were manufactured in (i.e. Japan = YUDEN000T03, MCC04 for Taiwan or India)???

...also can we generalise about whether +/- format is better for burning DivX/Xvid discs to watch on bog-standard cheapish DVD players, in terms of being more compatible/consistent???

Thanks for your replies in advance!

Thats right, near the barcode somewhere it will say where they were manufactured, which as you say shows which dye type they'll be using

I've pretty much always used DVD-R for everything (except dual layer) and never had problems, but I assume the it's the same for people who've only ever used DVD+R. Try getting them to let you have 50 + and 50 - and see which works best for you... =]
