Tracker Mortgage

POSTED BY: tea-towel 2 months, 3 weeks ago

Hi, I don't suppose anyone has taken out a decent tracker mortgage recently that they can recommend?
I'm looking for one with no early redemption charges (as will probably want to remortgage in about a year), and ideally no arrangement fee, and obviously with a low interest rate as possible.

Thanks in advance.

C&G are doing a tracker @ 0.23 above BOE base. No tie ins, £99 admin and fully flexible with over payments. I believe Barclays have a similar deal but dont know the exact details.

Edit - Agreed about the admin. C&G, or more accurately their solicitors were a bit slow. Looking at their site, my deal is not showing any more. If you dont want to take either of our advice, go see an IFA. but make sure they offer all products, they're not tied to a few, its free, they get commission from the banks/BS.

Barclays (woolwich) is 0.59% above BOE base rate with no early redemption and if a re-mortgage no fees and free valuation and free legal fees. It is a lifetime tracker which means that the deal is for the duration of the mortgage and not just 2-3 years.

C&G are pretty poor at the moment in admin area. I had 10 Buy to Lets with them and it took them 3 weeks to open the paper work and I had to cancel and go with another lender. The new lender was a little bit dearer but issued the mortgage offers within a week & agreed them in principle the same day as applied). Give C&G a wide berth as they are constantly complained about in the 'pinks' letter pages.

barclays on the other hand are good in the admin dept at the moment.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I had noticed the Barclays one and thought it looked competitive when compared to the rest of the market - it's been good to see that there are a couple of recommendations for it above too - gives me more confidence if I do decide to use that one.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the info - I don't suppose you can give me a link for that one? The only one I could find that looked similar was currently tracking at 5.49% for a discount period of 2 years, with an early repayment charge applicable for that discount period...

I haven't been able to find the HSBC one mentioned above, so currently the one I plan to go for is the Barclays tracker - I'm doing this with a view to hopefully fixing in about a years time.

My search isn't quite finished yet though - please could you let me know if you find anything better?

The HSBC one can be found by going to mortgages then selecting the specials tab. Unfortunately they use session ID's so I can't paste in the link. Also, appears the Barclays/Woolich and Cheltenham and gloucester special have disappeared!
