Free unlock code from Vodafone

are you on a contract and near completing the contract?

Yes i am on a contract, but the phone was purchased as PAYG.

They are going to send the code through the post within 7 days.

Worth a try.

According to someone at moneysavinexpert

"Offtel have ruled that as of Feb 2008 all phones have to be unlocked
to all networks"

Is this worth trying on a mobile that was bought new about 2 weeks ago on PAYG? And when you ring up what do you say lol?

All I asked for was the unlock code, it was just that simple. When I asked how much he said free, I didnt ask again, lol.

Look u cant loose anything, just make the call, if it works, like it has done for me u will be quids in.

Has anybody else tried this yet? What was the outcome?

I phoned them, and they said that they would charge me £19.99. So I declined.

in the past i think you can get your phone unlocked if you are in the last 6 months of your contract. so after 6months on a 12month contract and after a year on a 18month contract. something along those lines. not sure about the offtel statement though

Going by what it sayd on MSE I think you have to have been on Vodafone for a year to get the unlock code for free.

I havent been on voda for a year yet, not even close. I would be interested about other peoples experience about this.

Contract handsets sold on Vodafone are no longer network locked, so anyone who owns an existing Vodafone contract handset and account can get the phone unlocked free of charge regardless of the age of the handset, as opposed to the previous £19.99 inc. VAT. that applied for handsets less than 12 months old.

Pay As You Talk Vodafone handsets are still network locked, and a charge of £19.99 including VAT still applies to get them unlocked, unless the handset is more than 12 months old.
