Nope - its good value for money but about 10% slower than GT and a bit more with AA enabled - its about on a par with the ATI 3870

http://www.tomshardware.com/2008/02/...force_9600_gt/

thats the 8800 GT with 512 btw - the GT with 256 now becomes pretty much defunct as this is similar price point and benifits greatly from the extra memory

too expensive for what it is, you can get the 8800gt for £145 ish which is alot faster. so dont bother with this.

If it's true that this card is 10% slower, then surely the fact its £30 cheaper is justication enough? Plus you get free Tomb Raider. :D

exactly thats why I said its good value - but if your a hardcore gamer its worth the increment in price for the 8800GT . Looking at the Toms hardware shows you on average accross 9 recent games at 1650x1050 the average framerates were 62 and 53 in the 8800's favour but with AA enableed it 45.7 and 40.7 - so hardly 'a lot faster' - so if money is tight then this will still get you good performance with todays games with the gap in price being a lot greater than the gap in performance.

Most probably very similar - see this benchmark comparison between the 7950 GX2 & HD 3870 (similar to the 9600GT).

Could anyone tell me how the HDMI output on this card aquires the audio?

Can it take it through the pci-e or will I need a HDMI audio header on my soundcard? Only asking cos I've just ordered the parts for a HTPC minus a GFX and I've gone for a X-Fi pci-e which doesn't have any headers, over the internal ALC889 which does although I'm not sure if this is just for use via a backplate addon for the chipset.

Apreciate some help
