avsie:
Remember if you are upgrading the RAM then this laptop only has Windows Vista Basic which only allows up to 1Gb of RAM to be recognised and only 3 applications running at a time. You will need to upgrade to a better version of Windows like XP or Vista Home Premium in order to upgrade memory to 2Gb.
I recently bought a refurb like this from Currys and it came with Home Premium and 1Gb RAM (same processor and the rest except it had 13.3" screen) and that cost £209 inc vat. So maybe hang on for something like that to appear - at the time they were selling the 15" version of mine for £234 so maybe hanging on a bit will see a slightly better specification come available as a refurb.
Hi Avsie,
I think you maybe a little mixed up. The version you are discussing is
Windows Vista Starter, an operating system primarily focused on emerging, third world and developing counties. Indeed it does have these limitations, however it is not officially available here and is not part of the package above.
Windows Vista Home Basic does not have a 1gb ceiling (its 32 bit therefore can address 4gb of memory if the hardware supports it). There is no 'imposed' limit on the amount of applications (avoiding a very technical discussion here) so it will act much like any other OS.
