Freesat TV is set to be getting started around the middle of May 2008 it will have around 200 channels at its launch date including five HD channels all for a one off fee of around £150 this figure includes an internal HDD of about 160GB for recording HD/SD programs.
Freesat TV will be made available through JOHN LEWIS STORES & THE DIXON GROUP in the first six months then rolled out to other retailers later.
The trouble is there will be a huge demand for the required HD Digital Boxes and there will be a strong temptation to buy any HD Satellite Receivers that are currently available right now!
Freesat TV Information is very thin on the ground right now and the dedicated forums are giving out miss-information on the subject most of these has been very friendly towards a rival satellite UK company in the past.
When I first posted on this great forum by background was 100% satellite and the reason for this long-winded post is as follows,
Freesat TV will only be shown on either Freesat TV Branded HD digital boxes or by way of SKY TV. This means that current Sky users won't be able cancel their subs and retune their now paid-for digi boxes in the hope of picking up the Freesat TV EPG although users wont have to change cables or their current satellite dishes as these will work just fine with Freesat TV.
The BBC has developed new software that makes its data stream invisible to non-Freesat boxes hence the reason to stay away from current WORKING free to air HD digital boxes and when Freesat switches on its EPG these non-Freesat boxes might stop picking up any channels that has joined the Freesat network.
Please wait until the Freesat luanch date and only buy official Freesat hd digital boxes if you are intent on buying any of the current HD satellite receivers make sure you ask the dealer to state on your invoice of purchase that the said box is fully Freesat EPG 100% COMPATIBLE?
When I first saw this information I did not believe it but I checked out this information with one of Sky TV's top technical manager and he confirmed that all the above information is 100% correct!
So there you have it guys looks like the best way to save your money is to wait until official Freesat HD digital boxes are released through official sources.
