SMC draft N wireless router & USB dongle

would've been smarter, in my opinon, to go with the belkin one:

Yeh im not sure 5-6 is that good. I think my 54G isnt that far off that mark!

my WRT54G gets 2.2mbytes/second, which is 50% of the 54mbit "allowance" but that's as good as you get on G.

assuming same inefficiencies on a N router you should easily be seeing 15-20 mbytes/second. not 5-6...

dont think much of belkin network stuff (their ups' are good tho)....i had a bluetooth dongle which worked when it felt like it for the 4 devices i have....its now a 100 piece jigsaw puzzle after my 2 years patience finally ran out...belkin support were non-existent....

i prefer dlink stuff myself, tho netgear are ok

while N is supposed to be around 15x faster in reality it's all theory and marketing puff - in practice there's countless bottlenecks. It's all very well expecting 15-20 mbytes/sec but is there ANY wireless router that has been able to sustain that kind of speed?

5-6 mbytes/sec should do me it makes the NAS drive i have usable and in any case since it's limited to 100 mbps by the ethernet connection to the router (it may very well be that which is limiting the speed), i have to wait until i get another usb N dongle so i can see how fast it is from computer to computer (at present it's 1.2 mbytes/sec with a draft N to 54G)

but i suspect this will be more than enough for someone needing to upgrade, what's important also is that it does the job okay and since my previous Belkin router would need reseting from time to time and it kept disconnecting from xbox live this seems like a reasonable solution.

300Mbps requires a 3x3 MIMO device, and good separation between the antenna at both ends of the link. And this doesn't look to have either.

Having said that it'll be no worse than the competition's USB devices.

Godsakes can you say much about the security and uptime, especially when shifting larger chunks about? What is the range like?

it's got WPA2 if that means anything to you. Been backing up the computers between 10-20 gb each (using backup genie) which takes an hour or 2 it seems to do it.

Can't say too much about range the router is only 1 room away from the office, but the signal strength is certainly stronger than the beklin G router i had
