I've had a shockwave and they are appauling... avoid! It's always worth spending the extra to get a £300-400 bike... try http://www.wiggle.co.uk - excellent service and great offers will get you a bike it's worth repairing and not chucking!

seconded. Shockwaves are awful. if you really only have £80 to spend, buy a basic hardtail, less to go wrong. And if you want to go to halfords, the apollo's are better made and finished than those shockwaves.

Thirded!!

Awful quality, plastic brake pads, uber heavy - not good. Better off going to a local bike shop and buying a Giant/Trek/GT hardtail for £200 ish.

I used to build these bikes when I worked at JJB sports, and they were the same distributer and shocking quality as quite a few bikes we were selling reduced from 160 to 80. Needless to say, in the year i worked there, they never cost more than 80.

I wouldn't say they were quite good enough to be shocking. They also weigh a ton and on a couple of occasions I cut myself on the welds in the frames (and could see weld gaps), which is shocking at ANY PRICE.

Actually, a good deal on a bike at that price from jjb would be their reebok bikes or rbk bikes. They were usa designed decent frames which used to be branded as nirve, but are now being sold cheaper.

Steer clear.

A big heavy clunker with suspension that you wont need making it even heavier and changing large amounts of you energy meant to propel you forward into a bouncing up and down movement.

Also - someone above suggested 3-400 quid for a bike - but if you buy a new one that is a 2004/5/6 model they still have in stock that was originally that price - then you are likely to get it with up to 50% off - and its likely to only be different colours and a lower groupset than the current model.
