TomTom 520 Music edition £154.80 delivered at Amazon (further discount possible)

£154.80

As expected for the Easter break, Amazon have just reduced their whole 520/720/920 TomTom range. Previously it was £199.99, then £172.00 & now it's £154.90.

If you haven't bought yet, then it's probably the most competitive price around for this model (& personally, I'd prefer to buy from Amazon over any other UK retailer just for their price promise & great backup), *however*, great price aside, there is a further discount promotion Amazon still have running.

You actually have two options to take advantage of further promotions/discounts (depending on whether or not you fancy real time traffic updates into your Tomtom)

If you fancy having real time traffic info, then add one of these into your basket to turn your Tomtom 520 into a traffic edition...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/TomTom-9V00-017-RDS-TMC-Receiver/dp/B000W3H2A6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1205941675&sr=1-1

& then when you go to check out, you'll get a £9.90 DISCOUNT applied, which essentially means you've bagged a live real time free traffic update module for just £20 (these things sell alone on Ebay for £30-£40!)

*Alternatively*, if you don't want the traffic module, then it's probably better to get PC World to price match +10% against this latest Amazon price, which will bring the price down to £150.29 .....& then if you flog the enclosed iTunes voucher (that comes in the Tomtom box) on Ebay like I did for £8.50, it'll take the effective price down to just £141.50ish!!

I've got this one. It's good, the iPod feature is quite good, but it's hard to try and change tracks when you're driving, and probably more dangerous than having the iPod in your hand! The handsfree phone is a bit rubbish too - even at max volume it's hard to hear anything, so only useful for really quick messages.

Good price, however.

Also, it comes with a iTunes £10 voucher which I flogged on Ebay for £8.50! So if you have no interest in iTunes & can be bothered, it takes the effective price down to about £146!!!

Yep, that works!!! PC World's price is £199.99. Get them to price match Amazon's price +10%, which takes the PC World price down to £150.29, flog the iTunes voucher for £8.50 on Ebay, therefore effective price is about £141.50!!!! (I've updated my original post to reflect this - thanks)

You plug the iPod into the TomTom and the TomTom broadcasts through an FM frequency on your radio.

The Tomtom has a little FM transmitter built into it. The theory goes that you tune your car stereo into the frequency of your TomTom transmitter (you need to configure your Tomtom to transmit on an unused FM frequency). Then you can either play MP3s off the TomTom SD card or off your Ipod (which connects to your Tomtom via a supplied cable) over the FM transmitter into your car radio. The nice thing about this method is that you can listen to your MP3 & then when the Tomtom wants to issue you with an instruction, the music will fade - instruction will be given - & then the music volume returns again afterwards

Video of it here...

Also speech recognition..

Text to speech (speaks road names to you, therefore "left turn ahead - station road" as opposed to just "left turn ahead")...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBLBycqf574 (the British version/voice is much smoother & easier on the ear!)
