24" Yuraku Widescreen LCD Monitor DVI with HDCP (P-MVA Panel!) - £216.60 inc delivery

£216.60

511°

FOUND BY: PhearFactor 6 months, 1 week ago

I took delivery of one of these yesterday and it is a VA panel like the OCUK monitor everyone was raving about. It is identical to the OCUK monitor apart from the fact this one is £50 cheaper, supports HDCP and as far as I am aware, you have no chance of receiving a TN panel.

I found it from www.prad.de forums. The members their were raving about this monitor (there is a 106 page thread about it). Basically there are 4 monitors that all look identical, the one on OCUK, this one (Yuraku) and 2 more that are not sold over here (Novita & Iolair). This one is said to be the original, the other 3 are supposedly clones of the Yuraku. All the clones have had TN models appear but this one has not had any.

I messaged one of the forum members on Prad asking him to confirm everything I read in the thread before purchasing. He gladly did so and confirmed everything I just said above. It really is a good deal and I am absolutely loving my new monitor (I had a 21" CRT previously, so this is a massive upgrade for me lol)

Don't forget Quidco!

Here are some pictures and also some proof that it is a P-MVA.

As you can see it says "AU-M240UW01-V3" which is P-MVA.

More proof it is a VA.

This is what it would look like if it was a TN (below);

As you can see the angle isn't even as sharp as what my photo was taken at and you an see the colour change.

Top monitor, can't wait to get Assassin's Creed running on it

Here is a link to Prad Forum thread I mentioned. It is translated to English by Google.

Looks nice, can you please explain the following terms for the less monitor literate:

- VA panel
- TN panel
- P-MVA

Thanx

you should of took a picture of the same thing on each monitor therefore it is easier to see the difference.

When I say VA I mean P-M'VA'.

:
TN (Twisted Nematic): Without Overdrive, this type of panel offers the fastest pixel response time. This does however come at the expensive of viewing angles and color fidelity. Out of all TFT-LCD panels, the TN type has the lowest contrast. It is also a 6-bit color depth panel, meaning dithering or frame rate control (FRC) must be employed to reach close to a full 8-bit depth. Pixels in their active state on a TN are black, while in their inactive, white.

(P-)MVA ({Premium} Multidomain Vertical Alignment): The liquid crystal (LC) cells on MVA panels are in their active state white, and in inactive black and are separated into four domains. This slightly improves viewing angle over TN-type displays (MVAs provide ~45 degrees). MVA panels also provide a high contrast ratio. Grayscale inversion is minimal on these displays. Response time is the second slowest in the industry without ODCs. MVAs and all derivatives hide details at a perpendicular viewing angle due to their multidomain nature. Cells are never perfectly vertical or horizontal in an MVA, but they can be very close.
They are basically the step up from TN, but they usually sell for £300-£400. There are better monitors but your looking at £500+ probably, maybe even higher. Way out of my price range so I never checked.

I don't own a TN panel, that picture was just to show you how the colours go all loopy on a TN screen when you go to a sharp viewing angle.

Go here if you want to see some better pictures of it: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...postcount=2513 - now look at my image, mostly the Google logo, the colour hasn't changed at all from what it should look like.

Updated the listing so it goes to Misco instead, the 3 that were left at Aria have sold out.

Looks like they are all out of stock at Aria now. I was lucky enough to get one (though Misco isn't that much more expensive). I'll be interested to compare it to my mate's OCUK Digimate one ... which I have a feeling is one of the TN panels (poor vertical viewing angle and nasty colour shifts).

Still, it'll be my first ever LCD monitor since I've decided that my 17 inch CRT is past its best!

Yeah, I grew tired of my nicotine yellow CRT and got this little beast. I have another identical Dell 21" on my other PC which looked the same. I look at it now and even on the desktop it just looks rubbish. I never realised before just how cloudy CRT's are, probably something to do with my set-up but this Yuraku worked straight out of the box. No tweaking or anything, nice crisp, sharp images that I never really witnessed on my CRT. I guess it was just old and decrepit lol
