7" digital photo frame - £29.91 instore clearance

£29.91

212°

FOUND BY: wanye 1 year, 7 months ago

was in my local staples at lunchtime (nottingham) and noticed they had a Stein 7" digital photo frame in for £29.91.

so i bought one. it seems fine for a basic photo frame. has an SD card slot and unlike most cheap photo frames i've found, doesnt have any annoying writing on the frame (why would anyone want something that has the words "digital photo frame" on the bezel?!)

anyway, there were several of them on the shelf where all the photo frames are (not the clearance table). i'm assuming this will be available in most stores (although it isnt listed on the site)

heres the specs i found from a google search:

Manufacturer: Stein
Bluetooth: No
Brightness in Candela/m²: 350
Horizontal Resolution in Pixel: 480 pixel
Loudspeakers: with Loudspeakers <--- i can't see any speakers, but they may be hidden round the back...
Memory Card Slot: Yes
MP3 Playback: No
Remote Control: without Remote Control
Screen Format: 16:9
Screen Size in Inches: 7 in
USB: with USB
Vertical Resolution in Pixel: 234 pixel
Wireless LAN: No

Does it play the photos in a random order if requested? Had a Kodak one for £79 and it would only play it in the order of the files on the SD card. Turn the frame off at night, come back in the morning and it was back to the start again. Rubbish so I took it back.

£xx.91 indicates a staples end of line item

Can't check the play order of pics on the card, as the SD card i tested it with is back in the works digicam on the other site. I'll test it tomorrow when i bring my own card in to use with it...

I got a basic photo frame like this from Ebuyer a couple of years ago. I would've thought they would've come down in price by now...mine was about 20 quid.

Yep i'd second this - ONLY buy a digital photo frame if it has a random setting AND you can set a pretty long period between images eg. 3 mins+ anything else is just annoying.

I'd also only buy one if you can use it with batteries. You want to be able to move the thing around and show the pictures to people.

Beware also the picture quality on alot of these is rather poor still. Can't comment on this particular model but I bought one for £40 last year and was very disappointed with the 7" screen.

Most women are fairly content with 7 inches

Why does this have speakers if you can't play MP3s? Or can you play other formats?

as far as i know, it doesnt have speakers. the specs are lying

the maximum time you can set a photo to stay on for is 60 seconds. which i think is more than long enough, as i've loaded over 500 photos on it so far (and still got loads of room for more - i resized them all to a similar resolution to the screen so it doesnt have to resample the image and sd card space isnt wasted)

if it does random play mode, i havent found it yet. it does it in datestamp order

havent tried any ani gifs, will try tomorrow.

as for only buying one with batteries.. its £30. youre not going to get the moon on a stick for that price. it sits on my desk at work showing a bunch of images. it does what i want. i dont want to go round showing photos to my mates with it. if i wanted it to play videos, i would have bought an archos media player. if i wanted wifi/hi res/other fancy bits, i would have spent more than £30 on one. as it is, im very happy with my purchase.
