From my research the hdmi ports only act as a pass through, so a optical cable is still needed which put me off buying it.

are you sure as on the thread on avforums it says that hdmi only acts as a pass through

I really do not know much I can have a look at the instructions, all I know is that I get surround sound from my DVD player might be Pretend 6.1 I spose. I'll let you know when I get a chance
