EXPIRED - Dell Poweredge Server £117 (Free Delivery) ***NOW £268****

£117.00

441°

FOUND BY: jrob01 1 year, 6 months ago

E2160 Dual Core 1.8 GHz
160GB
DVD Rom/512Mb Ram (can be upgraded if necessary using Ebuyer etc)
Broadcom 5721 Gigabit Ethernet Controller NIC card PCI-E (in addition to on-board NIC)
1 Year NBD Onsite Warranty
No OS
No KB, No Mouse (these can be purchased through the Electronics/Accessories)
Free Freight (Saving £60) - Probably a mistake

Not the best specification for anyone wanting a server, but you can't go wrong with the basic dual core CPU. Good build quality, do some research however if you are considering using this as a desktop machine. I have two in work and I have never noticed any excessive noise from them (some people do say that dell servers can be noisy)..

Possible £5 for Quidco members!

Brilliant deal if you need a spare machine. Def. upgrade to 2GB via eBuyer though, and that £8 HD upgrade too.

Nice find ... I had a quick go at finding the components cheaper, but it was impossible. This'd make a cheap computer for someone who needs a basic machine. For the price, it would be hard to find anything better.

Remember + VAT for upgrades.

Also consider going to the hard drives in electronics & accessories section i.e. Seagate (Maxtor) 160GB SATA-300 for £23.20 + VAT (free delivery). I think you have to pay if you want RAID however (additional card).

I also had a 4GB ECC FBDIMM memory kit, £71 + VAT for my Precision 690. I have never seen it so cheap.

Nice price, although it has no O/S.
Fine for those like me that happen to have a few XP licenses just laying around .

The SC440s have dire onboard graphics and will only take PCI-E cards if you chip away at plastic in the slots. Essentially it's a good deal, but only if you actually want to use it as a server, not intending to try and use it as a desktop replacement.

With XP it should be fine. I'd still up it to 1GB of RAM at least though. No games, and Vista would be poor graphically. It's a bit of an overkill in some ways of course!

You might find this lacks onboard sound. Check. I mean, a PCI card is cheap but good to know in advance.
