I have a £700 projector (well it was a year ago) and it doesn't have a scart connection...I don't think you would honestly use it if it did...

I'll maintain that this is perfectly viable for a first home cinema setup...

You dont get scarts on projectors these days.

800x600 is more than dvd resolution (I think).

Voted hot, scart can be converted from over connections (easy) format and resolution doesn't really matter as it VERY cheap, wouth it.

Of course the resolution matters.

You will get black bars top and bottom playing any DVD other than a full screen one. And playing a 2.35:1 aspect ratio DVD will give you less than 50% of the screen actually displaying video. Other than that could will zoom in, which at that resolution and at that size will not be good.

If this was 16:9 format it would be fine, but 4:3 is really bad for DVD etc.

It says in the spec:

Resolution (Maximum)
SXGA ( 1280 x 1024 dpi)

Resolution (Native)
SVGA ( 800 x 600 dpi)

Picture format
4:3 (Native) • 16:9 HD Compatible

So, I'm sure it will play DVD's at the required resolution if it says it does 16:9? Ok, it's not native but it at least does it.

Off course it can play it.

Theres only one way of putting a 2.35:1 widescreen DVD onto a 4:3 source and thats by putting huge stonking black bars top and bottom. Exactly the same as it does on your old 4:3 portable CRT.

I quite like black bars, neater than wall and carpet.

Black bars ?!

It's a projector - it can't produce black !

16:9 content works perfectly, because the "black bars" are transparent - you just see the 16:9 picture on your screen. It's the same width as 4:3 content, but obviously it has less height.

DVDs on this will look just fine.

Don't worry about the lack of SCART - it's got Component inputs instead.
