Clarification Required: Price of posted deals can include voucher discounts or not?

POSTED BY: BristolDeal 2 months, 6 days ago

Hi

Following on from my and edi's discussion in the thread about the David Lean boxset, I would be grateful if Admin could give a definitive answer on this.

As there don't seem to be any set rules about it, what is a good rule of thumb - to include a voucher discount in an item price or to post it with pre-discount price only? I was under the impression it was the latter. You're not supposed to include Quidco discount in item prices (as it's not guaranteed and not everyone uses it) so why include voucher discounts (which are not 100% guaranteed to be available to everyone, and people may not want to use them, or have already used them)?

Using edi's thread as an example: the voucher in question gave 10% off, and there were no details of any restrictions (specific items / multiple uses etc). edi used this discount to bring the price of the item down, and it was only this which made it slightly cheaper than anywhere else (the same item was available for only pennies more than the pre-discount price at several other retailers). I don't think, in this case, the use of a voucher was justified in the pricing, as insufficient details were available about its usage/validity.

It would be good to have a clear policy which we can all stick to. Personally I think there are too many variables when it comes to vouchers, and they should be left out of the price and just attached as an option.

Thanks.

If the price is available to everyone then list it at that.

A voucher that is multi-use no personal restrictions can be used to bring down the listed price.

If a voucher is one-time use then it shouldn't be in the listed price but can be mentioned after it.

Thanks for the speedy response. So as the restrictions were not clear with that particular voucher, then it shouldn't really have been used, I guess.

Considering most vouchers are multi-use I actually think the other way on that case BristolDeal. There was no reason to presume it wasn't.

I think the Play 5% one should not be used to list a price with unless the non voucher price is listed first.

Shame this isn't extended to amazon items that are less than £15, therefore you have to buy more items to qualify for free postage.
There was once upon a time a chat about this, and the decision then was to use the phrase, filler item......

Personally, I don't agree with that at all. In my experience most vouchers, especially for sites in TheHut's chain, are single-use only. There was just as much reason to assume it was single use. So as none of us knew, you're saying it was okay to take the chance of posting inaccurate information and prices?

You set down a nice clear, concise rule in your first post and then confused the issue all over again in the next. Are you surprised people don't know what to do? Except of course that this 'addendum' is in your employee's favour, and your loyatly to them means they won't be shown to be in the wrong, which is understandable.

There were some typically vague rules set down about that as well, but as they were clear as mud, needless to say the situation never changed.

Go to the vouchers and compile stats that show the majority are one time use and then let's talk. Otherwise let's keep any personal agenda out of this thanks.

My experience is entirely the other way with listed codes but I'm happy to be proved wrong.

I agree totally with your comment about Amazon and I've posted about it before. If it's a small couple pound filler item then it should be posted as such - otherwise it should have delivery price.

The point is people shouldn't see a price and then find out a checkout they are getting screwed for more. That defeats the point of the site in a lot of ways and I personally find it very annoying.

Thanks for that,so, if i see an item, for less than £15 on here, and it's priced at actual amazon price, say, £7 in the title, ie before delivery costs, can i spam/expire/report it please, and summat will be done?
Like you say, £2 or less should be filler, £2.01 should be £2.01, PLUS delivery then?
I found it annoying too, but i find too many things annoying

I don't know at what point something becomes a filler but I'd say at £7 it's not a filler it's an item. I would suggest not expiring it but rather reporting in and posting in the thread so that (a) a mod can fix the price and (b) other members see what the consensus is so they think of it in the future.
