Excellent. Free fiver.

I never look at my paper statements anyway!

EDIT actually just noticed the "no cheque book" bit. No good for me that... never mind. And they give the fiver to charity if you are an existing customer... hmmm.

I don't mind giving money to charity (I have direct debits totalling more than £20 a month going to various causes) but I don't appreciate them effectively dictating terms like this.

Wow i didn't realise that was possible! For existing customers (like me) it might be worth opening a Bonus Saver as all they ask you is to put at least £1 a month into it.

I doubt HSBC are doing it from the goodness of their hearts... they'll be saving more than a fiver a person surely. Wonder if they're donating the rest to an environmental charity?? Doubtful.

hmmm an ethical offer from such an ethical global company!! Guess it depends - if you just want a fiver then maybe ok... if you want Green banking then only the Co-operative Bank runs it's whole business ethically.
