Bass Guitar - For A Beginner - Any advice appreciated :)

POSTED BY: cinoci 2 weeks, 5 hours ago

I am looking to learn to play bass, but am looking for a suitable guitar to start with..I have read that there is no point in buying a cheap no name brand one, as it will make learning difficult.

So far I have found this one on amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Yamaha-ERB070BP-Bass-Guitar-Pack/dp/B000Y9Q6MI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1209756814&sr=8-1

or without the amp:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Yamaha-ERB070-Bass-Guitar/dp/B000UYTBAG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1209756814&sr=8-2

Now its time for me to show my ignorance... would this guitar be suitable for a beginner? and which would people recommend as a better buy(with or without amp)? or am I on the wrong track altogether?

Any and all help appreciated

Harley Benton, sold by Thomann are great for beginners

Theres a short scale set cheap here http://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_junior_bassset.htm

Full size here http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_bent...1_ebassset.htm

Short scale would be ideal for a beginner, or someone with small hands

Thanks for the reply sicpuppy
If I learnt on a short scale bass, would it be easy to make a switch to full size later? Off to research the Harley Benton ones now
