##WANTED 11" or 12" LAPTOP-DESCENT SPEC###

POSTED BY: salimsd 1 week, 6 days ago

Hi all

I am looking for 11" or 12" Laptop. The once i have seen are 11" Sony but the price is toooooo high and also it's only C2D 1.2Ghz or 1.3Ghz. Can anyone advice why is the spec so low??

Seen this one: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/139887

I think these ones use the ultra-low voltage CPUs and due to their low power consumption (I think they use about 17W compared to 35, 45 or higher for equivalent desktop CPUs. Also they tend to work cooler and I think you get a performance boost and you get much better battery life too, of course.

It's a nice laptop, but you are paying a fair bit for the 'tablet' function with swiveling screen and touchscreen. It gets decent reviews, but Trusted Reviews only gives it 7 out of 10) http://www.trustedreviews.com/notebo...Port-g-M700/p1

Also PC Pro isn't too generous with this review: http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/16375...g-m700110.html

If you really want those features then you could also consider the HP tablet laptops (TX2000 or TX2100) which come in around the £600-700 mark.

Also check out a local Staples as I recently saw some good HP tablet machines with a £100 or so off as they've been superceded by new models.

To be honest if you're not that bothered about the tablet function then I wouldn't bother and spend the same money on a better spec notebook, it's all down to what you need at the end of the day.

In that case you could get a VERY good spec normal laptop for the £700-£800 mark, even £600-700 would get you a good one. I've just ordered myself a Dell Inspiron M1330 which is 13.3" widescreen and gets good reviews. It comes with and HD audio option which, with the HDMI output as standard means you could output high definition audio/video to an HD TV if you have one. It also has an LED-lit screen which helps with battery life and you can get a graphics card option for it with a Geforce 8400M GS. Anyway, it could be an option, but there are lots of other good ones out there like the new Samsung Q45:

Read some reviews of other 12" or 11" laptops and see what models they compare them to, then search for reviews on those models. You're definitely best looking at review sites like PC Pro, Trusted Reviews, etc as they really put them through their paces and are honest about their shortcomings.

Good luck!

Small laptops are low specced because slower running processors use up less power and generate less heat, and a smaller laptop has less space for heatsinks and battery.
