Playstation 3 help

right so im asking for people advice on behalf of my friend, he has bought a 60Gb playstation 3 console brand new and boxed off ebay it arrived today and it was brand new and boxed, but when he played it it made a horrible sound in the disk drive and the disk drive will no longer take disks,

basically he rang sony and they have told him that with out a recipt for the console he will have to pay £150 to get it fixed, which personally i think is a right con. he has emailed the user on ebay but had no reply yet,

so basically is there anything else he could do?
would it be possible to get a recipt from anywhere for a 60gb console to scan and give back to somebody?

were a little unsure what to do really

Umm, never had the problem myself before but you could try using google to see if anyone has had the same problem and see how it can be fixed.

did he pay by pay pal if he did tell him to dispuite it the quicker the better , also see if the sellers number is on ebay so he can ring to try and sort it out , hopefully the seller will be at work and will get back to him soon .

This is the danger of buying from ebay something like this. Even if brand new the damage of the box being thrown around in the post may have damaged it beyond repair.
some shops operate an exchange policy without a receipt he could try that but be prepared to be turned down everywhere.
Alternatively he will have to make a claim through ebay-look at the sellers feedback and whether there seems to have been problems with this before and if he dealt with them. email him with a deadline- i expect to hear back before 6pm tomorrow before I escalate this etc etc. Often if he paid with paypal you can easily get a refund through making a claim through them.

Good luck, but bad move-buy from a shop next time!

exactly-he might be at work, you need to leave a period of time before escalating to show that you have tried to resolve the issue direct. give him 24 hours before claiming, but no longer. otherwise by claiming prematurely you could pee the seller off and they wont do anything to help.

How unlucky can you get and what a shame for your mate,

At times Ebay and Paypal sucks and i never feel confident using Ebay and only use them for the cheaper smaller items, I know there are a lot of genuine people on there but you never know which one of them you are buying from.

Also one of my main hates with Ebay is the postage charges people get away with like £10.00 for a small SD card for instance.

big willy style- if your willing to give me your reciept that would be amazing, is the reciept for the 60gb console and whats the date on the recipt? it would not make a differance with it being bought in edinbrough ither.
