Hi, can someone help me, I was going to buy a wireless router to connect my son's laptop to my internet, this reads to me like it would be a far simpler solution or am I missing the point somewhere???

hel2866 a wireless router connects to your internet connection - this connects to 3's mobile network and so their charges apply, and coverage will vary.

You will have to pay a monthly prescription, but you won't have to arrange to have a new line to be put in, obviously no wires, and you can take the dongle on your travels! Good find, and nice price too.

This allows access to the 3 mobile broadband service on a PAYG basis. To actually use it you'll need to subscribe at either £10, £15 or £25 per month depending on the data allowance (same as contract prices, although the out of bundle charge is a ridiculous £1 per MB - multiply it up and its £1000 per GB).
Its a good deal for the light user and irregular traveller, although you need to make sure you stay within the bundle (and NEVER use it abroad).

These out of bundle charges, how do they actually charge for them? On PAYG surely when your credit or allowance is up thats it until you top up??

If you are an existing three customer you can get the monthly subscription at half price, thus either 5, 7.50 or 10 per month. And the dongle is free.
Its an 18 month contract though, and if you cancel your phone, they will charge you the full amount for the internet.
On the up side, I got one for my mum and am impressed with it, just got the basic pack (approx 40hrs surfing a month - can't remember the download limit) but its as fast as my wireless connection and works fine.

Does anyone know if this is faster than connecting to your phone as a modem using bluetooth or a USB data cable? I am guessing it is just a phone without a handset so I am struggling to understand what the difference is. Thanks.

If you have that enabled and an HSDPA handset then that should be the same 3.6Mb connection (in supported areas). Not all handsets support HSDPA, and using your phone as a modem and bluetoothing the data is going to rape the battery so the USB alternative can be very useful.
