At the heart of this home cinema wonder is a 7-channel amplifier with a meaty 75 watts per channel. Along with the 7-channels comes processing to match. DTS-ES, DTS Neo, Dolby Digital EX and Pro Logic IIx are all included.

Key to the Onkyo's appeal is the HDMI interface. Fully compatible with 1080p, the HDMI interface allows two sources to be connected to a flat screen TV with just one input. In addition to the HDMI, a wide selection of other sockets are also provided, including a second set of speaker outlets.

This price is for VIP club members which is an email newsletter that you sign up for. I think you just need to ask in store for the VIP price and no proof is needed.
Its normally £200 at Richersounds and seems to be £240 plus elsewhere so the extra £20 discount is a bonus.

Any reviews - I was looking at getting an AV receiver last night but £179 seems a little steep for an unknown brand...

Onkyo is only unknown to the highstreet cheap ****, it's a very well established in audiophile amps and have been quality brand in Hi-Fi shops for years.

Onkyo are not an 'unknown brand'. They make quality products that normally look a bit ugly. I don't know this item, so can't comment. However I would be amazed if you could better the quality by spending £180 on a Sony, Toshiba, Samsung etc.
It is not uncommon for Onkkyo to have a £700 - £1000 flagship model that is right up there at the top .

Onkyo gear is up there with Yamaha, Arcam and Denon....just doesn't get the exposure that Sony, Philips and Pioneer do.
Not a bad deal at all...sadly not in the market to replace my AV amp just yet :(

This is a bargain. Only so cheap as it has now been superceeded by the 506/575 model.

Okay I can get the 506 for £249.00 Apparently it has an upgraded power supply and a few other 'improvements'. I too have a 505 on reserve and would really like people's views on which to go for. I have until Saturday to decide.

Hmm, my experience of great deals in Richer Sounds has never been great. It usually goes "Oh, great deal" > rushes down to the store > "sorry, we have no stock". "Oh. There's a surprise."

I'd recommend anyone to phone their local store first! But they won't let you reserve one. Other than that though... good deal.
