Help with wireless extenders

Don't think this extends a wireless network, it's for making a network over power cables.

You can get routers that extend and I believe they are cheaper than that.

Wouldn't trust the seller either:

"I do not give refunds only if items are not described accurately.

If so, I bought one, and whilst it worked, after a fashion, I get on MUCH better with ethernet over mains such as with a couple of these netgear HDX101 units.

Rock solid connection, but of course you are tethered to an ethernet cable.

(NB Please do you own research on pricing - these were the first examples I came across - I have NOT searched for low prices).

Is your router on the floor? Cant you move it on to your desk. I assume the aerial is fully extended.

Going through the power cables is going to mean that your laptop needs to be plugged into the mains network upstairs I think? Also needs to be on the same circuit? Not sure if upstairs will work?

You might just need a new router, should work upstairs no problem. Have you tried different channels? I would either sort the original router or get a wireless extender, I don't think I'd go through the mains.

No, the laptop will work just fine on a battery, it is the Ethernet cable that is plugged into the Netgear powerline device. It is using the mains to carry your network. Sockets in the same (domestic) building should be on the same circuit too.

That's why I said mains network, not mains! Just pointing out that afaik it'll mean plugging in rather than using wireless.

have another look at the kit he pointed to, its a kit that uses the power line to send network signal TO a converter(network to wifi) at other end, the room where the converter is placed then becomes a hotspot you see

Apologies, I now understand what this piece of kit does!

I would still use a wifi router on its own to extend or sort out the current router.

yeah thats my way of thinking to, but some people like to throw money at a problem first, all depends if u have more spare time or cash i suppose.
tbh in some instances he has gone for the right product.
given good electric cabling this will give him both powerline and wifi any where he wants it
very unlikely to be unable to work over one or the other so a pretty good spend money and fixit solution

Those 200 Mbps Home Plug adapters are very expensive I thought when I looked into that stuff.
