TheMetalMan:
What is trimming?
Although longitudinal trimming is important - ie put weight at the front of the heli to make it go faster forward - this is more easily achieved by twisting the tail rotor round slightly. The trimming in this case refers to rotational trimming - as these helis don't have a gyro - the speed of the tail rotor which provides the anti-torque - (ie stops it from spinning around under the main rotor), is based on the speed of the main rotor - meaning trim has to be applied when you turn the heli on (most don't remember trim settings after turn-off but the insectas do) in order to make it fly straight.
In reference to the other poster, I don't have any experience with the Dealextreme helis but any other non Silverlit heli i've played with has always been significantly inferior in both build quality and durability than the Silverlit ones - the Insectas being the latest 2CH model of which. £12.99 is a really good price for them. I work in a Gadget shop, have flown them for customers virtually every day for almost a year and have never broken one, anyone who brings them back broken has normally either stepped on them or kept the power on after a crash, causing damage. If you do manage to break something it will almost exclusively either be the tail rotor (you get spares in the pack) or the main rotor, both of which are replacable.
As for those Dealextreme ones, i'm not sure they're worth the 3quid saving - the 30 min battery life (if accurate) is impressive as the insectas would rarely get above 15 but the poster does say they break often and that's not the case with the Insectas. One point is that i'm assuming the Dealextreme ones are not IR as they would be unlikely to work outside due to solar interference if they were (This is the case with the Insectas).
As another poster said the IR is very wide band, as long as the controller is not block and is in the same room as the heli you're fine.
NB: As the original poster said this is a Picoo model heli and thus has the basic same insides (with slightly updated electronics) as an original PicooZ. (The insectas and apache variants are also made up of an updated foam material which gives better impact protection than the originals).
