I have a 1gb 8500 GT graphics card, what do i need to be looking at to do my quad core system justice?

Its the only 4.something in my windows score. Looking for the best balance of price and performance (HD output a must!)

Should mention, would be looking to run a 27" HDTV display . . . .

Really depends on your needs - if you're not gaming or using any sort of 3D application it's unlikely to be worth upgrading the graphics card.

The Vista score is gaming graphics isn't it?

The 8500GT should be fine for anything except gaming, and maybe heavy 3d applications, although putting 1GB of graphics memory on such a modest chip was a bit overkill.

It should be easily capable of running the 1280x720/1366x768 that your 27" HDTV is, in fact it's probably running a higher resolution than that on your ordinary monitor.

You'd think that, but seems to really struggle when i use a DVI/HDMI cable (pic is grainy and doesn't fit screen properly, it is a 27" Evesham tv so its prob that, but xbox and ps3 look great through HDMI connection . . ), plus i do want to see what all the Crysis fuss is about on a decent setting . . . . .

An 8500GT won't run Crysis at decent settings. You want an 8800 G92 Series card or better.

I think that's probably just your settings, a card that's struggling to process an image will just slow down - it won't go grainy.

Crysis can bring even the fastest card to it's knees if you turn every last setting on but any high-end card should be reasonable for playing it on high. As you're having trouble with an nVidia card then perhaps an ATI card like the 3870 512mb would be the best choice?

Prob because the mighty Vista couldn't find any drivers for the evesham tv, nor could i . . . . was running as "generic display device" and wouldn't allow me to change (many) resolution or screen settings
