I actually took only Lira and £10 and £20 sterling notes and it was fine. For trips and things they usually quote in round sterling figures but will work it in Lira for you but really most restaurants display prices in LIra and Sterling. Euros aren't actually the real currency over there so I wouldn't bother paying to get money in Euros when Sterling is perfectly fine. It is good to know the exchange rate though between Lira and Sterling because they round things to whole numbers a lot of the time you may want to check which one gives you the better deal but there isn't much in it. And of course you will need sterling to get into the country anyway. I think it's £10 or £20 each that you have to hand over.
Yes I have been told I need to pay £10 English Sterling on arrival at the airport to get into the country.
Lots of people have different views on the currency but most say dont waste your time getting Lira as £ do in most places, just take a little Lira for taxis etc
