Anyone good with electricals?

POSTED BY: Leah2k10 5 days, 11 hours ago

I have 2 laptops, one which I am on, and my old one, which kind of broke on me, the bit I plugged the charger into snapped and a computer friend fixed it for me by using something to stick it back on, however, i pulled the plug and stopped using it as it began to melt and smoke appeared. I have not used it since but desperatley need to get some of the information off it and onto my new laptop, I cannot turn the old one on. Does anyone know if there is any way possible to get the information moved over? Many thanks in advance!

You can take the Hard drive out of the broken one, get a USB to 2.5" IDE adaptor cable, then just plug it into your working laptop to get the info you need off of it.

The cable can be found at most online shops, shouldnt set you back much more than a fiver, fleabay too, though make sure it has the 2.5 connection not the 3.5 for normal HDD's, some do have both

Take the battery to a computer shop and ask if they can charge it

take the HD out then send laptop to me see if I can fix the power issue, repaired my girlfriends power adaptor by throwing it at a brick wall...er i mean cutting the faulty wire out and re-soldering the good bit on

Lol, tut tut tut! Well i think the throwing it at a brick wall might actually work to be honest! It was a computer technician who fixed it for me, something to do with a bit snapping off the motherboard! cant get actually into the guts of the thing as the cable is stuck in it! ooops

What is it an Inspiron 5100 series the bit he replaced looks like this? common for it to break off as laptops are still sensitive equipment people seem to forget this.
