I thought they used to give all of their unbought food which is at the end of it's sell by date to homeless shelters. That's what my Mother used to tell me anyway.

I beleive this is the food the use to sell off to the staff at the end of the night but have stopeed doing this and selling to the public. Could be wrong just remember my girlfriend who works there mentioning it.

thanks - worth a look. they didnt used to do it tho, and remember this isnt just any supermarkets

staff gets to buy them if the customers don't buy them.. you can get up to half the retail price ... just buy them and freeze them so you can keep them for longer...

M&S do not do (Close to sell buy) discounts.
The staff canteen has fridges, and shelfs for this sort of thing to be sold cheap, but it should never be offered to customers.

Suprised by this, and have emailed head office about the "leeds" store..

It is against company policy.

They used to give away to shelters, charity, but have stopped this in the last 12 months due to the threat of legal action if anything is wrong.

Chiptivo I think your wrong - my freind is also at the huge Pudsey store in Leeds NOW, they've also got reduced items. they're easy to spot - they have large yellow stickers on.

just to confirm this is a different store to the one I visited.

the staff get even more of a bargain now it's 1/2 sometime 1/4 price of the sticker if joe public does not buy it

At the Morissons I work at they reduce stuff by a stupid amount so it never sells and they end up chucking it all out.
I saw some kid who works in the pie shop (yuck!) dragging a bag of unsold items out the back to be chucked out.
It was so heavy he couldn't even lift it!
It's disgusting the amount of food they chuck out!
