Im leaving Virgin media, Where do i go now?

POSTED BY: *scooby* 2 months, 1 week ago

I have just got a bill from Virgin my for my tv, telephone and broadband and it has gotten too expensive so i have given my 30 days notice. I did call disconnections but they wanted to tie me into a 12 month contract so i decided it was time for a change. Now i need your help!!!. I can't get freeview as the signal is no good which leaves me with 2 options (i think). Bt for tv, tel and internet or sky which way is best?. I am mostly interested in kids channels but i need 2 boxes and don't really want to spend more than 40. a month.
Any suggestions??

Go back to Virgin and chance your arm, tell them what you want to pay less a wee bit and see where it gets you. The worse they can do is turn you down, they should be desparate to keep you.

Save your £40 a month for 5 months and its paid for. The way I understand it you get the dish and the box for around £200 for the HD version or about £130 for non HD version

Non HD box £50.00 x 2 = £100 + sat dish and fitting about £80 might cost about £10 more for a twin LMB though

They offered to do the 3 for 3 for another year but i said no because my 3 for 30. ran out and they sent me a bill for 60.00 worth of service charges (no calls) and will not reduce it. So i have had enough of them.

I know you said you couldn't get a decent signal with freeview, have you thought of changing your tv aerial. We had to do this as we are in a "dip" and our signal was hopeless. We upgraded our aerial, changed over to freeview boxes only cost £10.00 each, internet and phone with aol for £ 19.99 a month ( that;s on all day option unlimited) and ditched sky.

Okay we had to lay out for the aerial and the boxes, overall much better and I get to chat all day long........ If I want.

Also if you sign up to a contract with aol they are offering a free lap top at the moment.

I too agree, you can or may do worse! Re-negotiate with Virgin and force a better deal out them!

Good luck!

How long have you been with Virgin? Haggle it out of them. I've been with them for around 3 years, for the past year I've had the 3 for 30 package but for £24.00 (although how they worked out the £16.00/pm discount is beyond me). Anyways recently renewed my contract. Where as before I was on 2Mb broadband, L TV, Talk Weekends, Now I'm recieveing 4Mb(10Mb) broadband, XL TV, Talk Evening and Weekends - for £35/pm.

What I done was filled in a feedback form on virginmedia.com telling them the problems I was having andI asked them to let me know the upfront charge for me to disconnect while i'm still in my contract. Engineer calls me a week later arranges a time, couple of blokes come to replace my digital tv box but the problems I was having still existed... and then their plonker of a manager didnt turn up. Anyways I happend to come across a sound guy from the disconnections who sorted me out with that deal. Told me I'd be able to downgrade my services if I wish to later on even though they don't usually allow that, but if I ask someone to get him to give me a call back he'd sort it out.

With me we had no BT line so Virgin / Tiscali were our only options and I was never too serious about leaving. I'm sure you'll get a phone call from someone soon enough if you gave in your 30 days notice, if it happens to be someone half decent then you should get exactly what you're after.

Zak.

I have had the call that you are talking about and they can't get my bill down anymore; i have 2mb broadband, talk eve & weekend, xl tv package and 2 boxes for 39.50. So its a good deal but i get so irritated when i have to re-boot the boxes to see whats on and keep calling indian call centres when my internet chugs. I have just found out that i should be able to get freeview (apparently i was connecting it wrong) so i will prob keep the 1 cable box in the kids room and have freeview in the lounge as i can never find anything to watch on all 500 naff channels anyway.
Thanks
