Exterior house rendering, pebbledash or similar advice needed! pleese

Hi all, We need to have the front of our house, i believe its called rendered, we currently have old, balding pebbledash, which is letting in damp, and basically looks terrible!, our house is a double fronted mid-terrace. We would hugely appreciate any knowledge before trying to find a contractor, we stay away from this as much as we can as my hubby is great at DIY, however this is a job for a proffesional, does anyone know any approximate costs, £100's / £1000's, have not got a clue! i can not even find out who does this type of work /builders? i can not ask anyone local, as most of them had it done a long time ago too, local paper not much use, we live in Billingham Thank you in advance for any knowledge you can pass on, i dont want to go into this blind (so to speak!) Some of the best stuff is a resin based compound that is sprayed on to the house and, depending on how much it costs, can be maintenance free for over 10 years.

Has to be done professionally unfortunately and is costly.

Have you tried asking at B&Q or Wickes? Thet tend to have people with this kind of knowledge and free leaflets.

Hate pebbledash. A resin based coating would probably cost around £1000-1500, maybe less if you remove the pebbledash yourself

god, i dont think we could do that, many i'll chip some off & see how easy it comes away..... but that is a lot to pay, and doing that work ourselves! heck, should just move!

Had ours done and it did cost roughly £3,000 all pebbledash had to be hacked off and re-rendered and replastered, normally a plasters job, check out your local builders merchants for plasters for price and quotes.
Mind you our house is 65" long so price above was for that, we bought all materials, cheaper that way sometimes

Hi,
Try Protectacoat. They give a 20 year guarantee. A maintainence free coating . Its the best . But it aint cheap

Oh dear, whats underneath the pebble dash is what you really need to worry about! damp in behind the rendering may have done some damage.
With proper safety precautions removal is not too bad to do your self as long as it is brick beneath just use a percussion drill with a curved end chisel, sand stone is a lot tougher cos u may damage it more removing the render with a power tool so you have to bash it off using a mal hammer.

Get 3 plasterers to give you quotes for pebbledash removal and render of the house.

Could save a few bomb by hacking off the stuff yourself.

make sure you use reputable professionals.

i work for an exterior coating company and agree that the damp is the first problem that you need to address and then look at the pebbledash.
